Swap game rules – how to play swap

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

Welcome to SWAP!

SWAP! is a thrilling and fast-paced card game that requires quick thinking and strategy. Unlike other card games, there are no numbers on the cards, and instead of drawing, skipping, or reversing, players engage in exciting hand swaps or slap the pile based on the last card played.

Get Ready to Play!

To start the game, shuffle the deck and deal 10 cards to each player. The remaining cards form the draw pile, which is placed on the table. Place the top card face-up to create the discard pile, leaving enough space around it.

If the face-up card is a SWAP card, the dealer gets to choose one of the four colors to initiate the game. However, if the card is a SUPER SWAP, SLAP, or SWITCH COLOR, the action specified on the card is not carried out. The game simply begins with the color indicated on that card.

THE PLAY

Let’s start by talking about how the game is played. I’ll explain the rules to you, step by step, so that you can understand them easily.

The game begins with the player who is sitting on the left side of the dealer. That player takes their turn first. Here’s what they can do: they can either play a card that matches the color of the top discard card, or they can play a SWAP card. It’s important to note that they can only play one card on their turn.

If a player doesn’t have a card that matches the color of the top discard card or a SWAP card, they have to draw one card from the draw pile. They can look at the card they just drew and, if it’s a playable card, they have to play it immediately. But if it’s not, they have to keep it in their hand. This will end their turn.

Now, let me tell you about some special cards that are in play.

SWAP

SWAP cards are a bit different from the others. They can be played at any time, no matter what the color of the top discard card is. When a player plays a SWAP card, they get to choose who they want to swap hands with. Pretty cool, right? They can even change the color of the discard pile if they want to. And the best part is, a SWAP card can even be played on top of another SWAP card!

SWITCH COLOR

Now let’s talk about the SWITCH COLOR card. This card is special because it allows the player who plays it to change the color of the top discard card. So, if you want to be strategic and mess up your opponent’s plans, the SWITCH COLOR card is the one you should play.

When you play a SWITCH COLOR card, it can only be played on a card of the same color. If you choose to play this card, you will have to select a different color for the discard pile. You can only play a SWITCH COLOR card on another SWITCH COLOR card if it matches the chosen color.

Now, let’s talk about SLAP cards.

SLAP cards can only be played on a card of the same color. When you play a SLAP card, everyone except for you needs to slap the discard pile. The player who is the last to slap the pile will have to draw a card from your hand. It’s important to remember that only SLAP cards of the same color can be played together.

The game will continue in a clockwise direction until one player gets rid of all their cards.

Now, let’s discuss how to win this game.

The first player who successfully gets rid of all their cards will be the winner of the game!
