Super Mario Jenga
Hey there! Welcome to Super Mario Jenga, where you get to play as your favorite characters – Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Toad – in an exciting twist on the classic game. Get ready to stack some bricks, race to the top, collect coins, and take on the notorious Bowser! But be careful, because if you knock over the tower, there’s a hefty penalty waiting for you. The goal? Reach new heights before the tower tumbles!
What’s Inside?
Let’s dive into what you’ll find inside the box. There are 45 plastic Jenga blocks, which you’ll use to build the tower. To keep things steady, there’s a handy stacking sleeve. And of course, we can’t forget the characters – Mario, Luigi, Peach & Toad – each one represented by a peg. You’ll also find a spinner, which determines the action you’ll take on your turn. At the top of the tower, you’ll spot Bowser, ready to challenge you. And to add an extra dimension of fun, we’ve included 26 gold coins and 8 five coins for you to collect along the way!
Getting Started
When you play this game for the first time, you’ll need to put the spinner together. Just snap the arrow into the base on the card.
Building the Tower
Before you begin, make sure all the blocks are in the center of the table with the Jenga logo facing up. Give the blocks a good mix so they’re shuffled nicely. Now, it’s time to start building! Make each layer of the tower by stacking three blocks together. Remember to alternate the direction of each layer. Finally, place the Bowser figure on top of the tower. Make sure to keep the stacking sleeve nearby for all players to use.
Choose Your Character
First, you need to decide which character you want to play as. There are different characters to choose from, each with their own unique abilities and strengths. Once you have made your selection, take the character token and the corresponding character card.
Now it’s time to set up your character on the game board. On the second layer of the tower, you will see some holes. Choose any one of these holes and insert your character’s peg into it. This will be your character’s starting position.
When you play the game, each character card has its own special abilities and actions that you can use.
STARTING COINS
At the beginning of the game, you have one five coin. The rest of your coins are kept in a pile near the tower.
THE GAME
Okay, let me break it down for you. When it’s your turn, you’ll go through three steps: spin, stack, and climb.
SPIN
First things first, you’ll spin the spinner to see how many blocks you need to stack. It could be 0, 1, or 2 blocks. The spinner also determines if you get any bonus coins, how many layers you can climb, and if the turn order changes.
Now, pay attention because the next two steps can be done in any order!
STACK
When it’s time to stack, you can take one block from any layer below the top. You can only use one hand, but it’s okay to touch the blocks to find a loose one.
And wait, there’s more! Check the block you just removed. It might have a special item on it. If it does, stack it on top of the tower. Just make sure you finish each layer before starting a new one.
Let’s play a game with a tower. Give it about five seconds and see what happens. If it falls, you have to give back 10 coins to the pile. But if it stays standing, you get to do something special based on the block you chose. And if you have to stack two blocks, go ahead and do it after the special action.
Now, there’s one rule. You can’t remove a block that has a character peg in it. If you want to take out the block with your character peg, you first have to remove the peg and climb up. Then you can stack your blocks.
But here’s a sneaky move—you can knock your opponent’s peg down when you remove a brick. If you do that, they lose a layer and you get to steal a coin from them.
Just remember, a peg can never go lower than the second layer of the tower.
CLIMB
When you play the game, you’ll need to move your peg up by a certain number of layers. You can put your peg in any open hole on any side of the tower. After you insert your peg, wait for about 5 seconds to see if the tower falls. If it does, that means the game is over and you lose 10 coins.
There’s a rule that you have to move all of the spaces at once. If there are no open spots on the layer you’re supposed to move to, then you don’t move at all. You can still continue with the rest of your turn, though.
The first player who gets their peg to the very top layer of the tower, whether it’s completed or not, gets 10 coins. Once you reach the top, you can only climb up if there are enough layers to do the whole climb.
When you reach Bowser, you have to stop right below him. Even if you spin and it would let you move to or above Bowser, you have to stop at the layer just below him. Before you can move above Bowser, you have to battle and defeat him.
So, once I get to Bowser, I have to fight him. But before that, I need to spin either a 3 or a 4. If I can’t do it, my turn is over. Winning means moving my character peg above Bowser, and once I do that, I can’t go back down.
It’s not just about winning, though. The first player to beat Bowser gets a bonus of 5 coins. The second player gets 4 coins, the third player gets 3 coins, and the fourth player gets 1 coin.
And we keep playing like this until the tower falls.
SCORING
When you play the game, if you’re the one who knocks down the tower, you have to give back 10 coins to the pile. But if your character token is on top of the tower when it falls, you earn 5 coins. If another player’s token is higher than yours and they make the tower fall, they get the 5 coins instead.
How to Win
If you have the most coins when the tower falls, you win the game!
