Welcome to the World of Sixes
Sixes is an exciting card game that originated in Spain. Traditionally played with a 40-card deck, it can also be enjoyed with a modified 52-card deck. The game involves strategy, luck, and quick thinking. Let me guide you through the rules so you can start having fun!
Let’s Get Started!
Before we begin, make sure each player has their own set of chips. You can use any small tokens like poker chips, matchsticks, or even pennies. Just make sure that every player starts with the same number of chips. Remember, the more chips you have, the longer the game will last. Starting with ten to fifteen chips is a good idea.
Each player will also receive a hand of cards. The goal is to get rid of all your cards before anyone else does. On your turn, you have two options:
- Play one card from your hand onto any of the discard columns.
- If you can’t play a card, you must contribute one chip to the pot.
Keep in mind that the first player to empty their hand entirely wins the pot. So, you need to be strategic about which cards you play and when. Good luck!
In a game of cards, we use a deck of 40 cards. If we have a deck of 52 cards, we remove the 8’s, 9’s, and 10’s. Aces are considered low, while Kings are high. We shuffle the deck and distribute all the cards to the players so that each of them has 8 cards. In the following rounds, the player who had the 6 of Diamonds in the previous round becomes the dealer.
Now, let’s talk about how the game is played.
When the game begins, we use the 6’s to start a discard column for each suit. Once a 6 is played, we have to build the column in sequential order, going up and down, based on that suit. If a player doesn’t have a card to add to an existing column or start a new one with a 6, they have to put a chip in the pot and pass their turn.
The player who has the 6 of Diamonds goes first. They place that card face up in the center of the playing area, which starts the discard column for Diamonds. The game then continues clockwise from there.
Remember, the goal is to follow the rules and strategize wisely to win the game. Good luck!
When it’s my turn, I have a few choices. I can play the 5 of Diamonds under the 6, put the 7 of Diamonds on top of the 6, or start another discard pile by playing a 6 from a different suit. If I can’t play a card, I add a chip to the pot and pass. Each turn, I can only play one card.
How to Win the Round
We keep playing until someone gets rid of all their cards. That person wins the round and gets all the chips in the pot. The person who played the 6 of Diamonds collects the cards, shuffles them, and deals for the next round.
How to Win the Game
We keep playing rounds until someone runs out of chips. The player with the most chips at that point wins the whole game.
