RIBS
Hey, have you ever heard of the game Ribs? It’s a really cool trick-taking game that actually started in Ohio. But here’s the twist – instead of just playing regular tricks, you get to play double tricks! Can you believe it?
This game is all about rushing and taking risks. It’s perfect for people who love trick-taking games but want something different from the usual rules. Trust me, it’s a refreshing change!
SETUP
Now, let’s talk about setting up the game. First, you need to decide how many decks you’ll be using. Each player gets eight cards, and you only use specific cards from each deck. Just grab the Ace, Kings, Queens, Jacks, tens, nines, eights, and sevens – the suits don’t matter in this game.
Alright, let’s get started with the game. First, we need to decide who the dealer will be. This person is chosen randomly. Once that’s settled, the dealer will shuffle the deck of cards and start dealing them out.
Each player will receive two cards. The dealer will go around the group in a clockwise direction, giving two cards to each player. Once everyone has their cards, they can take a look and get ready to play.
GAMEPLAY
The game begins with bidding. This is where players try to outbid each other by calling out numbers. We start with the number two, and each player has to bid a number higher than the previous player. The first bidder has to start with a bid of two. If a player doesn’t want to bid, they can choose to pass, but they won’t be able to bid on that hand later. The bidding continues until only one player is left.
Now, the player with the highest bid gets to go first. They start by placing two cards face down on the table. These cards are called the “ribs.” Then, the next player in line goes clockwise and plays two cards face up. It doesn’t matter which cards they choose to play.
When it’s my turn, I can choose to fold. That means I place my two cards face down. I can only do this once per hand. I put the cards in front of me so everyone knows which cards I played.
Once everyone has played their cards, we reveal them and compare them to the ribs. Any folded cards are thrown away and don’t count for anyone. If someone played cards that match the ribs, they crack the ribs and win the trick. This includes all the faceup cards, including the ribs.
If the ribs are not cracked, players who played cards that don’t match either rib can capture their cards back. But there’s a catch – at least one of their cards must be higher than both ribs. If a player has two cards that don’t match, and both are lower than the ribs, then the ribs win.
So, here’s how this game works: we all start with a bunch of cards, and each round we have to play them strategically. The goal is to win as many cards as possible. At the end, the player with the most cards wins the game. Easy, right?
Okay, let’s break it down. We keep track of the cards we win by adding them to our score pile. The defeated cards are worth a certain number of points, which we compare to the highest bid. If our cards are worth the same or more, we get to snatch all the cards-take that, opponents! But if our defeated cards are worth less than the bid, we have to add them to our score pile with a heavy heart.
After each round, when all four tricks have been played and we’re out of cards, we add up our won cards. Whoever has the highest score wins one game. In case of a tie, all tied players win one game.
Now, for the grand finale:
The game ends when someone reaches the milestone of five game wins. Yes, it’s time to celebrate! The player who achieves this feat is declared the winner, and everyone bows down to their card-playing greatness. Are you up for the challenge? Let’s find out who’s the ultimate champion!
