An Introduction to Red Light, Green Light

Red Light, Green Light is a timeless game that requires careful observation and awareness of others. It’s played outdoors and involves a Stop Light directing the actions of the players. If you make a move during a Red Light and get caught, you lose all your progress. On the other hand, during a Green Light, you need to hurry and reach the Stop Light as fast as possible.

Let’s Get Set Up

First, we need to decide who will be the Stop Light. Once that’s settled, we’ll mark the Start line and have everyone else line up there. The Stop Light will choose a distance to stand away from the other players, which can change depending on the group. Alright, time to start the game!

Time to Play

Ready? The Stop Light will turn around and shout “Green Light!” That’s your signal to go! Remember, you need to move quickly and carefully. But watch out! At any moment, the Stop Light might yell “Red Light!” and turn back around. When that happens, you have to freeze in your tracks.

When I’m the Stop Light, I have a special role in the game. If I see someone make a move, I can call them out, and they have to go back to the Start line. I have to be careful, though, because I can also trick the players by saying the wrong thing. That keeps them on their toes and makes the game even more exciting. It’s important for everyone to pay close attention and stay focused so they don’t get caught by me!
