In Ratuki, you’ll find 5 decks of cards, each containing 35 cards. Each card in a deck is numbered from 1 to 5, and there are different ways to represent the numbers on each card. For example, a 1 card might have the actual number one on it, or it could have a single hash mark.

Get Ready to Play

Okay, let’s get the game started! Each of us has our own deck of cards, which you can identify by its unique color. If there are any decks left over, we’ll put them back in the box for safekeeping.

Before we start, let’s shuffle our decks to mix up the cards. Once that’s done, we’ll each deal ourselves three cards. These three cards will be our starting hand to kick off the game.

THE PLAY

Imagine a group of people sitting around a table, eagerly engaged in a fast-paced card game. Suddenly, with a burst of excitement, someone shouts RATUKI! And just like that, the game begins.

When it comes to playing this thrilling game, there are a couple of unique rules that set it apart. First, you must hold your cards with the same hand throughout the entire game. Seems easy enough, right? Well, here’s the twist – you have to draw and play cards with the opposite hand! It’s a quirky challenge that keeps you on your toes.

If you have a 1 or a Ratuki card, you hold the power to start a Center Stack, which is nothing more than a fancy term for a discard pile. Here’s the catch, though – there can only be as many Center Stacks as there are players. So, if you’re playing with three friends, you can have up to three Center Stacks.

Now, let’s talk about the heart of the game – the moment when someone lays down a 1 or a Ratuki card on the table. As soon as that happens, they get to draw a card from their draw pile and add it to their hand, creating even more possibilities. But here’s the exciting part – anyone, and I mean anyone, can play a 2 card on top of the 1’s or Ratuki cards that have already been played to start the Center Stacks. It’s like a game within a game, always evolving and keeping you guessing.

In the game of Ratuki, you’ll be stacking cards from 2 to 5. Once a 2 is placed on a pile, you can continue building it by adding cards in ascending or descending order. For example, you can place a 1 or a 3 on the pile. The pile will keep going until it reaches 5.

Ratuki cards are special because they can be played at any time. When you play a Ratuki card, you get to collect the pile that it was placed upon.

There is a rule that you need to remember when playing Ratuki. You must always have three cards in your hand before you can play another card. And you can never have more than three cards in your hand at once.

Here is the exciting part. When you complete a stack with a 5 or a Ratuki card, you have to shout “RATUKI!” And then you get to collect all the cards in that stack. These cards are placed face-up to form your score pile.

During the game, I have a face-down junk pile next to me. If I have a card that I can’t play, I can put it face-down on my junk pile. But here’s the catch – when my draw pile runs out, I have to empty my junk pile too if I want to win the round.

ENDING THE ROUND

When I finish playing all the cards from my draw pile and junk pile, that’s when the round ends.

SCORING

I count the number of cards in my score pile. Each card I have in there gives me one point.

Then, I count the cards in my draw and junk piles. For each score, I subtract one point. If my round score ends up being a negative number, I just score zero points for the round.

WINNING

We keep playing rounds until one of us reaches 100 points or more. That lucky player is declared the winner.
