QUIDDLER
Hey there! Let me introduce you to Quiddler, the awesome word building Rummy style game brought to you by Play Monster. It’s all about using your smarts and quick thinking to create words with the cards in your hand. And guess what? The best part is, I get to be the first player to do it!
Now, let me break it down for you. Each card in Quiddler has one or more letters on it. And your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to use every single letter in your hand to make one or more words. It’s like a puzzle, but with words! And I know you love a good challenge.
If you’re a word nerd like me, you’re gonna absolutely adore Quiddler. It’s like a match made in heaven for all us language enthusiasts out there. But hey, don’t you worry if you’re not a wordsmith extraordinaire. You’ve got a secret weapon – the dictionary! Yeah, you heard me right. While it’s not your turn, you can totally grab that trusty dictionary and find those words you’ve never even heard of.
Oh, but wait! There’s more. Play Monster has your back with an official Quiddler reference dictionary. Oh yeah. You can take your gameplay to a whole new level by throwing in some epic words from their very own dictionary. That’s like having a personal word guru right in your pocket.
LET’S TALK ABOUT THE GAME
Imagine playing a game called Quiddler. It’s a fun and exciting game that I absolutely love. In Quiddler, we use two sets of cards, each with 59 different cards. Each card represents a letter from the alphabet. But here’s the cool part – some cards even have letter combinations like th and in.
Alright, let’s start by deciding who gets to be the first dealer. After that’s settled, we’ll mix all the cards up and give each player 3 cards, one at a time. As we play each round, the number of cards we give out will go up by 1. In the final round, everyone will have a whopping 10 cards in their hand.
Now, for the cards we didn’t deal. We’ll put them in the middle of the playing area as the draw pile. To kick things off, we’ll flip over the top card and use that as the start of the discard pile.
MELDS
When it comes to word melds, it’s important to combine at least two cards. You’re allowed to use any words except for proper nouns, prefixes, suffixes, abbreviations, and hyphenated words.
THE PLAY
Let’s talk about how to play this game. It all starts with the player on the left side of the dealer, and then it moves left around the table. To begin your turn, you have to draw a card. You can choose to draw the top card from the draw pile or the discard pile and add it to your hand. If you can create any words with the cards in your hand, you keep them there until you’re able to go out. When you finish your turn, you have to discard one card into the discard pile.
So, here’s how the game goes. It goes on and on until someone is able to win. You win by getting rid of all the cards in your hand and making words out of them. After you get rid of a card, you have to show everyone the words you made. But here’s the tricky part – you can only use as many cards as you were originally given. And just to make things interesting, you have to discard one last card before you can officially win. It’s like a final challenge. So keep playing, keep making words, and be the first to go out to claim victory!
When a player finishes their turn and goes out, each player, including me, gets one final turn. I start my turn by drawing a card, playing as many words as I can, and then discarding a card to end my last turn. It’s important that I discard a card on my final turn.
Once the round is over, it’s time to add up the points.
SCORING
I earn points for the words I was able to make and lose points for any leftover letters. Each card has a certain number of points on it, and I get those points if I use the card in a word. Then, I subtract the points from any unused cards from my score. My total score can’t go below zero.
Guess what? There’s a cool game called Bonus Word, and I think you’re going to love it! Every round, we collect bonus points, and here’s how it works. The person with the longest word gets a whopping 10 points. But listen up, it’s not just about the number of cards you have – it’s all about the number of letters in your word. So make sure to think big and come up with a real brain-buster! Have fun playing!
So here’s the deal: during each round, you get a sweet 10 point bonus for being the word-building champ.
But here’s the twist: if there’s a tie for the bonus, no one gets those extra points. Bummer, right?
And the Winner Is…
At the end of the game, whoever has the highest score walks away victorious. So bring your A-game and let’s see who can rack up the most points!
