Pip Pip – Let the Card Tricks Begin!

Hey there, let me tell you about Pip Pip – a super fun and rowdy English card game that’ll get any party started! The objective is simple: collect as many 2’s, Aces, and face cards as you can. But watch out, because things can get crazy when you match a king and queen of the same suit – that’s when you yell “Pip Pip” and change the suit!

The Cards & The Deal

For Pip Pip, you’ll need two regular 52-card decks. To decide who gets to deal first and keep score, each player can draw a card from the deck. The player with the lowest card becomes the dealer.

Now, let’s talk about the trump suit. Before each round begins, the dealer should cut the deck and reveal a card. The suit of that card becomes the trump suit for the round.

When playing this card game, it’s important to start by shuffling the cards really well. Then, I’ll deal seven cards to each player, taking care to hand them out one at a time. The remaining cards will be put in the middle of the table as the draw pile.

How to Play

During each round of the game, the main goal is to win tricks that have 2’s, Aces, and face cards.

When we start playing, it’s important to follow a specific order. The person sitting on the left side of the dealer gets to go first. They select a card from their hand and place it in the middle of the table. Then, it’s the next person’s turn, and this continues in a clockwise direction.

Each player takes their turn by picking a card from their hand and adding it to the collection in the middle. This collection is called a trick. Now, when you play a card, you must make sure to choose one that belongs to the same suit as the card that was originally led. However, if you don’t have a card in that suit, you can play any card from your hand.

To determine the winner of the trick, we look at the highest card played in the led suit. If there are any trump cards (which are special cards that beat all the others), the highest trump card will also win. If two identical cards are played, the person who played it second will take the trick.

Here’s an important rule: every time you play a card to the trick, you get to draw a card from the draw pile. This keeps the gameplay exciting and ensures everyone has a fair chance.

In Pip Pip, you have the power to switch up the trump suit while playing. If you happen to hold a king and queen of the same suit (except for the current trump suit), you can shout out, “Pip Pip!” Put those two cards in front of you, face up on the table. Right away, that suit becomes the new trump suit for the next round. It stays as the trump suit until it’s changed or the round ends. Remember, though, those king and queen cards are still part of your hand and should be played like usual.

You can also call a Pip Pip right at the start of a round, as soon as the cards are dealt. If you do this, the trump suit gets changed before the first trick is played. It’s possible for multiple players to call a Pip Pip at the same time. If that happens, the player who says Pip Pip first gets to decide the trump suit.

When you play the game, you have a choice whether or not to call “Pip Pip.” It’s not required – you can decide to skip it if you want.

As the game goes on, there may come a point where there aren’t enough cards left in the draw pile for everyone to take one. When that happens, the discard pile gets set aside, and the remaining seven cards are played just like normal. This signals that the round is coming to an end.

After each round, it’s time to add up the scores. Take a look at the cards you’ve won and calculate your points.

The game continues until every player has had a chance to deal.

Now let’s talk about how the scoring works.

Once all the tricks have been played, it’s time to tally up your score. Each card you’ve won has a certain point value:

– 2’s are worth 11 points each.

– Aces are worth 10 points each.

– Kings are worth 5 points each.

– Queens are worth 4 points each.

– Jacks are worth 3 points each.

Hey there! Whenever you play a Pip Pip, you automatically earn 50 points. Pretty sweet, right? But hold on, it gets even better! If both you and another player say Pip Pip, you both get those 50 points. Cha-ching!

But wait, there’s more! If you happen to have both queens and kings of the same suit, you can play two Pip Pips of that suit, and guess what? You score a whopping 100 points! Talk about a winning move!

WINNING

Now here’s how you win the game. It’s pretty simple, really. Once each player has dealt their cards, the game is over. And guess what? The player with the highest score is the big winner! So go out there, play those Pip Pips, and aim for that high score!
