A QUICK LOOK AT PIG

Pig is a fun card game that can be played by 3 to 13 players. The aim of the game is to be the last player left standing.

SETTING UP THE GAME

First, we need to choose a random dealer. The dealer will then shuffle the deck and give each player 4 cards. In some versions of the game, the dealer might deal 5 cards, but the goal is still to get 4 of a kind. Another variation involves the dealer giving out only 3 cards, with players trying to make 3 of a kind.

GAMEPLAY

When it’s time to start playing, each of us will get a set of cards. We’ll take a look at our hand and decide which card we don’t want. Then, at the same time, we’ll pass that card to the player on our left while taking a card from the player on our right.

The person dealing the cards will keep drawing from the pile on their right, and the last person in the game will put their card in a discard pile on their left.

Then, it’s time to repeat the process. We’ll choose another card we don’t want and pass it to the person on our left. At the same time, we’ll take the card passed to us from the person on our right.

This will keep going on until one of us has four cards of the same kind. That’s when the game ends!

Remember, we’re not allowed to have more than four cards in our hand at any time. And we can’t take the passed card from the person on our right (or the dealer from the pile) until we’ve passed a card to the person on our left. It’s like a cycle!

When I have four cards of the same rank, I don’t say anything. I simply touch my nose quietly and discreetly, keeping it there. Once I touch my nose, all the other players can do the same. The player who is the last to touch their nose either gets eliminated or loses a life.

If we play with the rule that losing a life means writing the first letter of the word “pig,” each lost life adds another letter. If a player loses a life but already has the complete word written, they are eliminated. For longer games, we can use the word “Donkey” instead.

The first person to complete four cards of the same rank becomes the new dealer for the next round.

END OF GAME

The winner is the last player remaining once all others are eliminated.
