Peek and push – learn to play with

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

PEEK AND PUSH

Do you always remember things perfectly? If not, then this is the game for you. Make a grid and place the tiles face down. You can make the game simple with a 3×3 grid, or challenging with a 5×5 grid – it’s up to you!

Try to remember the characteristics of a row or column before your partner does. If you can correctly tell them that the row or column has the same color, same number, or all different, then you win! But be careful, if you’re wrong, your partner wins! Will you take a quick peek or take a risk?

SETUP

To set up the game, sit opposite your partner. One of you should shuffle all the tiles. Decide how big of a grid you want to play with and draw that many tiles. Both of you should keep the tiles hidden. Create a grid, like a 3×3 grid, to start the game.

Now, you’re ready to begin!

GAMEPLAY

Let’s get started with the game! First, we need to choose who goes first. Once that’s decided, the first player can either peek or push on their grid. If you choose to peek, you can lift a tile and look at it, but make sure not to show the other player! On the other hand, if you choose to push, you can move an entire row or column one tile up or sideways. The tile that hangs off will go to the opposite end of the grid and be flipped facing up to reset it.

After making your move, it’s the next player’s turn. They can also decide to push or peek. Keep taking turns until someone decides to call the game.

When you call a game, you have to describe the attributes of the line you’re talking about. You can say that the line has all different numbers, all the same numbers, all different colors, all the same colors, or it has both different numbers and colors. If you’re right, you win the game! But if you’re wrong, your opponent wins!

END OF GAME

The game ends when a player makes a call. If their description of the line is correct, they win. But if they get it wrong, their opponent wins!
