Patriarchs – learn to play with

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

Welcome to Patriarchs Solitaire!

Hey there! I’m here to introduce you to an exciting solitaire game called Patriarchs. In this game, you start with eight foundation piles and a reserve of nine cards. The challenge is to build up the foundations using cards from the draw and waste piles. Once you’ve built all the foundations, you win the game!

Let’s Talk About the Cards and the Deal

Patriarchs uses two decks of 52 cards each. But hold on! We need to remove one King and one Ace from each suit before we begin. Once we’ve done that, we’re ready to set up the game. On the left, create a column of four Aces, and on the right, a column of Kings. In between them, deal out a 3×3 grid of cards face-up to make the reserve. The rest of the cards will make up the draw pile for the game.

THE PLAY

Let’s talk about how to play this game. It’s called Ace foundation piles, and it’s a fun and challenging game. The goal is to build the foundation piles in ascending order and make sure they follow the same suit. But there’s a twist – the King foundation piles are a little different. They need to descend in order, still keeping the same suit.

Now, pay close attention to this part, because it’s important. If two of the same suited foundation piles ever meet, you have the option to scoop one of the piles and add it to the other foundation. But here’s the catch – the original Ace or King must stay where it is, you can’t move it.

Now let’s move on to reserve cards. These cards can only be played onto the foundations. If you have a space in the reserves, you need to fill it immediately with a card from the waste pile. But wait, what if there’s no waste pile? In that case, you’ll need to fill the space with the top card from the draw pile.

Now it’s time to take a card from the draw pile and see where it goes. Try to play the top draw pile card onto one of the foundations if possible. But if it’s not playable, don’t worry. Just put it on top of the waste pile. And speaking of the waste pile, remember that the top card there is always eligible to be placed on a foundation pile. So keep an eye on it!

That’s it! Now you know how to play Ace foundation piles. It’s a game of strategy and skill, but with a little bit of luck, you’ll be able to build those foundations and win the game. Have fun!

If you manage to go through all the cards in the draw pile and still haven’t won the game, don’t worry! You can shuffle the waste pile and start over.

How to Win

You win the game by completing all eight foundations. It’s that simple!
