What You Need

To play Monopoly Deal, all you need is the game deck, which includes 110 cards, and the instructions to guide you through the fun.

Money, Money, Money

In the game, money cards are kept in your bank, which you use to settle any debts.

What are property cards?

When it comes to winning the game, property cards are the secret weapon. To emerge victorious, I need to collect sets of cards in the same color. Each property card has a specific value, which can come in handy when I have debts to pay off. Plus, these cards also generate extra income when I play the Rent action card.

But wait, there’s more! Wild Property cards can really shake things up. They work just like regular property cards, but with an exciting twist. Not only can they be used to represent different colors, but I can also flip the card during my turn to change the color it represents. It’s like having a double-edged sword in my hand!

ACTION CARDS

If you play these cards, you can do special moves like collecting rent on properties you own, canceling out an action card played by an opponent, or drawing more cards from the draw pile. You can also use these cards as money by placing them in the bank. However, once you place an action card in the bank, you can’t use it for its action.

You can use House and Hotel cards to complete property sets and increase the rent. But you can’t add House and Hotel cards to Railroads or Utilities. Each property set can only have one house and one hotel, and you have to place the house before the hotel. Once you have a house and hotel on a property set, you can collect rent for both!

SETUP

If you’re not familiar with the game, I’ll give you a reference card to help you. We’ll shuffle the cards and deal five to each person. The remaining cards will become the draw pile. The player who is the youngest will go first.

Let’s Play!

When it’s my turn, I start by drawing two cards. But don’t worry if I don’t have any cards at the beginning – I get to draw five instead!

During my turn, I can play up to three cards. I have the freedom to choose any three cards from my hand, or I can choose not to play any if I prefer. However, I must keep in mind that by the end of my turn, I can only have a maximum of seven cards in my hand. If I have more than seven, I’ll have to discard some of them until I’m back down to seven.

Now, let’s talk about how I can play these cards. Once a card is played, I can’t take it back into my hand, so I need to choose wisely! I have various strategies and options, but I always have to be sure about my choices.

If you want to put money in your bank, you just need to play the card you chose in front of you, facing up. You can play both money cards and action cards in the bank. Once an action card is in the bank, you can’t use it as an action card anymore. You can use the money in your bank to pay other players.

To add properties to your collection, you need to play property cards in front of you, facing up. You can have as many properties as you want. But remember, you need to win by having three sets of properties in different colors. Property cards can’t go in the bank. They have to be in your property collection.

Finally, I can play an action card. All you have to do is read the card out loud, do what it says, and then get rid of it. House and Hotel cards are considered action cards too, but you don’t discard them. Instead, you add them to the property set you want. If a Just Say No card cancels another card, the canceled card goes to the discard pile.

OWING MONEY TO OTHER PLAYERS

When you owe money to other players, you have to pay them from your bank. But here’s the catch: in Monopoly Deal, there’s no change given. So, if you owe $4 and you only have a $5 card, you have to give them the whole $5 card.

When playing the game, we have some rules to follow. One of these rules is that we cannot pay with the cards we have in our hand. If I don’t have any money in my bank, I have to use my properties to pay. But if I don’t have any money or properties, then I don’t have to do anything. I’m simply bankrupt.

If I have money cards or action cards that can be used as money, and I need to pay another player, I give those cards directly to that player’s bank. But if I use properties to pay, those properties go directly into my property collection. It’s important to remember that placing cards in the right spaces doesn’t count as one of my three plays for that turn.

To win the game, I need to be the first player to collect three different colored property sets. That’s my goal!
