THE GOAL OF JAMES BOND
In James Bond, my objective is to be the first person to gather four cards with the same number in all of the piles right in front of me. If no one manages to collect four matching cards in all their piles, then the player with the most completed piles wins.
HOW TO DEAL
Let’s start by dealing 48 cards into piles of four among each of the players. We’ll put the remaining 4 cards in the middle, face up. If there are only two players, they’ll each receive six piles of four cards. If there are three players, they’ll each get four piles of four cards. We won’t use any jokers in this game.
Here’s How to Play!
First, we need to shuffle a deck of 52 cards. But make sure to take out the joker cards. Then, we’ll deal 48 of those cards evenly among the players. Each player should have four cards in their piles, no more. Finally, we’ll place the last four cards in the middle, face-up, so that everyone can see them.
Okay, so here’s how the game goes. The dealer counts down from 3 and shouts “Go!” When that happens, we all reach for one of our card piles. If I have three cards that are all number 2, and there’s a 2 card in the middle, I can throw away the card in my pile that isn’t a 2 and grab the 2 from the middle instead.
Now, here’s the tricky part. We can’t hold more than four cards at once. So while we’re trying to match up the pile we’re holding, we can’t peek at our other piles, and we can’t grab any cards from the middle until we’ve put one of our own cards down.
Whenever we discard a card, it goes to the middle to replace the card we’re taking for our pile. Oh, and by the way, a pile is only complete when it has all four cards with the same number in it. Got it? Good!
ARE YOU READY TO WIN?
When you have four of the same card in all of your piles, and your piles are facing up to show that they are finished, you can shout “James Bond!” to end the game and prove that you won that round.
DIFFERENT WAYS TO PLAY JAMES BOND
There are other ways to play James Bond with four players. Two players can team up against another two players, and each team shares six piles of four cards. They can also look at two piles of their cards at the same time. Remember, no player should hold more than four cards at once, even if they work together to complete the piles.
Technically, this card game doesn’t require a dealer. However, it’s always helpful to have a neutral referee for competitive card games.
