Welcome to Grocery Store Dots!
Are you ready for a fun card game? Grocery Store Dots is a game that can be played by 3 to 7 players. The objective of the game is to either create the best 5-card hand or have the most dots to win the showdown at the end of each hand.
Here’s how it works: each player will contribute a small amount of money, called an ante, into a pot. This pot will be the prize that the winner(s) will receive. Then, players will bid on their own hands and have the opportunity to buy additional cards from a shared pool during the game. Once all the players are ready, the showdown will reveal who has the best hand or the most dots, and they will split the pot.
Let’s Get Started! Here’s What You Need to Do:
1. First, everyone contributes to the pot by placing their ante into it. Make sure to agree on the amount before you begin playing.
2. The dealer will shuffle the deck and have another player cut it. Then, the dealer will deal two cards facedown to each player in a clockwise direction. After that, a single card will be dealt faceup. This will be the starting point for the bidding.
3. Now, let’s talk about the card rankings. Each card has a value, and certain combinations of cards have special meanings. Here’s what you need to know:
Hey there! Let me break down the rules of the game for you. The cards in this poker game follow the usual ranking system: Ace is high, followed by King, Queen, Jack, 10, and so on, all the way down to 2 which is considered low. So far, so good? These rankings will come into play when determining the best hand at the end of the showdown.
But hold on, there’s more! Each card also has dots associated with it. These dots depend on the number of pips in the center of the card. Cards with just one dot include Ace, 5, 7, and 9. The ones with two dots are 2, 8, and 10. 3s have 3 dots, while 4s, 6s, and face cards have no dots.
Now let’s talk about making your hand. For the 5-card hand, you’ll only use the best 5 cards out of the 7 in your hand. But when it comes to determining the winner based on the most dots, you’ll consider all 7 cards in a player’s hand.
GAMEPLAY
Once we’ve set everything up, the fun begins with the first round of bidding. It’s your turn to bid, and you don’t have to worry about whether you’ll win the 5-card hand or the dots hand. Just focus on your overall hand.
Once everyone has placed their bids, the dealer will deal three face-up cards in the center of the play area. This is what we call the grocery store. The leftmost card is special – it’s marked. To buy this card, you need to pay 1 chip. The next card is worth 2 chips, and the last one is worth 3. The chips you pay go into the pot.
Now, it’s the dealer’s turn to start. They’ll go to their left, and each player has a choice. You can either buy one of the cards in the center or take a face-up card from the deck. If you decide to buy a card, remember that the store won’t refresh until the next player’s turn. So if the dealer buys a card, the store won’t refresh until after the next round of bidding.
So, once you and the other players have either bought a card or been dealt one, it’s time to start the second round of bidding. This round will continue until everyone except one player has folded or each player has four faceup cards.
After the fourth faceup card is dealt or bought by the dealer, a final card is dealt facedown to each player. This will be the seventh and final card of each player’s hand. Once it’s dealt, a final round of bidding takes place.
Showdown!
Once this final bidding round is completed, it’s time for the showdown. This is when all remaining players reveal their cards. Each player will announce their best five-card hand and how many dots they have in their seven-card hand. The player with the best five-card hand and the player with the most dots split the pot evenly.
End of the Game
The game continues until the players decide to end it. Typically, there isn’t a traditional winner, but the player who has won the most money can be considered the winner.
