Game of thrones the trivia game – learn to play with

Welcome to Game of Thrones: The Trivia Game

Hey there! Are you ready to conquer the Seven Kingdoms and take control of the iconic locations of Westeros? Well, you’re in the right place! In this epic game, you’ll have the chance to prove your knowledge of the Game of Thrones TV series.

But it won’t be easy. To claim these key locations, you’ll need to answer questions about the show. And let me tell you, the questions get tougher as you go. So, the more challenging the question, the faster you can conquer a location.

But wait, there’s more! Just like in the TV series, alliances can be made and broken. So, don’t be afraid to team up with other players to gain control over the board. It’s all part of the game.

Now, let’s talk specifics. The questions in this game are based on the first 4 seasons of the TV series. But don’t worry, if you haven’t watched all the episodes yet, there’s no risk of spoilers. The questions are classified by season, so you can play at your own level of knowledge.

Getting Set Up for Gaming Glory

When you’re ready to begin, gather around the table and put the game board in the middle. The round token should be placed on the designated spot on the round track, depending on how many people or teams are playing.

Now, each player or team takes their nine control markers and puts them on their side of the table.

Next, we need to choose someone to start the game. It can be the last person who told a lie or simply pick randomly. The chosen player or team gets the Iron Throne token.

Separate the picture and trivia cards into two piles and place them next to the game board.

LET’S GET GAMING

When my team takes its turn, we get to choose a spot where we want to put a control marker. But in order to do that, we have to answer some questions. The number of questions we have to answer depends on how big of a control marker we want to place. The control marker can have one, two, or three dots on it, and the more dots it has, the bigger it is.

The player or team on our left draws a card from either the trivia cards pile or the picture cards pile, depending on where the round marker is on the round track. Then, they read the required number of questions out loud. We have to pay attention because the questions we need to answer will have the same symbol as the control marker we’re trying to place.

If you answer all the questions correctly, you can place the control marker on your chosen location. Put it on the furthest left space that’s available. Remember, each location only has a certain number of spaces for control markers. If there isn’t enough space left for your marker, you can’t try to answer questions for that location.

Controlling a Location

If you have more control markers than any other player or team in a location, you take control of that location. But if there’s a tie between two or more players or teams, no one controls the location.

Hello there! Let me tell you something about the game without giving away any spoilers. If you want to avoid spoilers, just check the bottom right corner of the cards for questions related to a specific season. You can draw another card if you want.

HOW TO WIN

The game comes to an end if a player manages to place all their control markers on the board. If this happens, that player wins the game instantly.

If nobody has won by placing all their markers, the game ends when the round token reaches the end of the round track. In this case, the player or team with the most locations under their control becomes the winner. But what if there’s a tie? Well, the player or team with the most markers on the board will be declared the winner.

ADVANCED RULES

I have to say, the advanced rules really spice up the game and give it that addictive power struggle feel that any Game of Thrones fan craves.

Let’s talk about the Favor Cards and Resource Tokens, shall we?

There are a total of 24 Favor Cards and 36 Resource Tokens you’ll need to keep track of.

When setting up the game, you’ll want to shuffle the Favor Cards and place the deck on the designated space indicated on the game board. Then, draw two cards and place them next to the pile in the two spaces provided.

These Favor Cards are all about getting some much-needed help from iconic characters in the Game of Thrones series as you battle for control over Westeros. To get your hands on a Favor Card, you’ll need to collect the Resource Tokens shown in the top left corner of the card.

When you answer questions correctly during your turn, you earn resource tokens. You get one resource token of the type shown on the location where you’re placing your control marker. There are three types of resource tokens:

  • Military tokens (red sword icon)
  • Information tokens (grey raven icon)
  • Wealth tokens (yellow coin icon)

Once your turn is over, you can use the resource tokens you earned to buy a Favor card. But remember, you can only buy one card. To buy a card, just pay with your resource tokens. After you buy a card, draw another one to fill the space you just emptied.

Let’s talk about how Favor cards work. Each Favor card has its own effect and timing, which is explained in the text box on the card. Remember, you can’t have more than two Favor cards in your hand at once. However, if you want to buy a third card, you can do so by placing one of your current cards at the bottom of the Favor cards pile.

Now, let’s discuss Alliances. Sometimes, when you’re not sure about the answer to a question, you can ask another team or player for help. If they give you the right answer, they get the Resource token from the location you were trying to answer for. But don’t worry, you’re the only one who can place a control marker on that location.

Lastly, let’s talk about removing markers. When you place a control marker on a location, you have the option to remove another marker that’s already there. However, the marker you remove must be smaller than the one you’re placing. That way, you can give it back to its original owner.
