FORBIDDEN BRIDGE

Hey there! Let me tell you about Forbidden Bridge, a super cool board game. It came out way back in 1992, all thanks to Milton Bradley. Now, in 2021, Hasbro Games has brought it back with some awesome updates!

In this revamped version, Forbidden Bridge has been completely rebuilt. It’s got a brand new board, with a stunning mountain and an exciting idol. But don’t worry, the bridge and explorer tokens are just like the originals. They’ve kept the good stuff that made the game so much fun!

Overall, the way you play and the game’s mechanics remain the same. So if you loved the original, you’ll definitely love this updated version. It’s like revisiting an old friend, but with a fresh twist!

Hey there! Let me tell you about this exciting game where we race to get hold of two precious jewels from an ancient idol. And guess what? The first jewel we find needs to be safely taken to our canoe, while the second one goes into our explorer’s backpack.

Now, here’s the twist. As we venture across the game board, there’s an angry idol lurking on a bridge, ready to throw us off course. And when that happens, we lose our jewels, which end up scattered all around the jungle floor. But don’t worry, we can still grab them back!

The ultimate goal is to be the first player to reach the final space on the board with two jewels. So, are you ready to embark on this exciting journey and become the ultimate champion of adventure? Let’s go!

CONTENTS

Once you open the box, you’ll find a game board that looks like a jungle. It’s made of a thin type of cardboard. The mountain and idol fit onto the board using a peg and slot system. You’ll be surprised to know that the idol is actually motorized and doesn’t need batteries to work! To activate the idol, all you have to do is press down on his head. This winds up the motor inside. When you let go of his head, his hands start shaking and the bridge moves back and forth. This can be quite a thrill for the explorers who are unlucky enough to be standing on the bridge. They might get thrown around and some might even fall into the jungle below!

Hey there! Let me tell you about this cool bridge and the adventure it leads to. You see, the bridge is like a link between the idol and the mountain, and it needs to be put together. But don’t worry, it’s super easy to assemble!

All you have to do is take the two pieces of rope, also known as spans, and thread them through the planks of the bridge. Now, these planks have numbers from 1 to 13 and arrows to show you which way they should be placed. Pretty straightforward, isn’t it?

Oh, and don’t forget about the railings! There are 7 of them, and they are placed on certain planks along the bridge. These railings create spaces that are a bit safer for us explorers to land on. Safety first, right?

Speaking of explorers, there are four of us, and each one has their own canoe. How cool is that? We also have backpacks, and guess what? They can hold one jewel each. But here’s the thing – when we get tossed around by the bridge, the jewel in our backpack might just fall out. Gotta be careful, you know?

So, what do you think? Want to join me on this exciting adventure? I promise, it’ll be a blast!

So here’s the deal: when I’m exploring, I need to know how far I can move. And that’s where the dice come in. I roll two of them, and each one has its own job. The first die is pretty straightforward – it has the numbers 1 to 6 on it. I move my explorer a number of spaces equal to the number I roll. Simple, right?

Now, let’s talk about the second die. It’s a bit more interesting because it has three different actions on it. Not every action is going to happen on my turn, though. It all depends on what’s going on with the board.

So, to sum it up: when I’m exploring, I roll two dice. The first one tells me how many spaces I can move. The second one determines what actions I can take. And that’s how I navigate this wild, uncharted territory!

Setting Up the Game

Let’s get started by setting up the game. First, we need to assemble the game board. Attach the idol and the mountain to the board. Make sure to place the idol on the end with the Start and Finish space. Now, it’s time to connect the idol and mountain with the bridge. Simply place the rope loops over the pegs.

Next, we need to place the jewels. Take six jewels and put them in each of the idol’s hands. Now, it’s time for each player to choose their color token and grab the corresponding canoe. Once you have your canoe, place your explorer in it. Finally, put all the canoes on the Start space.

Let’s Play the Game!

Okay, so here’s how it goes. The person who’s the youngest gets to go first. And our goal is to cross the river, climb the cliff, and cross the bridge to get those precious jewels and bring them back to our canoes. Sounds exciting, right? But hold on, it’s not going to be easy.

As we make our way, we might encounter some unexpected challenges. The bridge can be a bit unstable, and we might accidentally knock down explorer tokens and even jewels. And here’s the twist – if someone falls or even one of our opponents, they can grab a jewel from a spot that’s not even near the idol’s hands. It’s like a surprise treasure hunt!

Let’s Roll the Dice!

Ready? Okay, first things first – we need to roll both dice to get this show on the road.

What’s the Number? And How Far Can I Go?

So here’s the deal: there’s this game I want to tell you about. It’s called the “River Adventure” and it’s pretty cool. Basically, you roll a die to see how many spaces you can move. There are these river spaces, five in total, and they’re separated by either a log or a rock bed. It’s kind of like a little obstacle course, you know?

Anyway, once you reach the fifth river space, you’re right by this huge cliff. And guess what’s next? Yeah, you got it—the beach! So, you move your canoe from the river to the beach. But wait, it’s not over yet! From the beach, you have to make your way up the cliff. It’s like a whole adventure, I’m telling you!

When I climb the cliff, the next thing I do is move to the bridge. As I cross the bridge, there’s a chance I might get tossed off by the angry idol. If I fall to the side or hang on the bridge, I have to use one move from the movement die to stand back up, and then I can continue moving. But if I fall from the bridge, I’m moved to the nearest jungle space and left on my side. On my next turn, I have to use one movement to stand up before I can move again. If I fall and land on the water, I’m moved to the closest jungle space.

When I’m in the jungle, I always have to keep moving towards a jewel. It can be in the idol’s hands, on the bridge, or even somewhere on the jungle floor. I can’t go into the water until I have two jewels and I’m back in my canoe. To cross from one side of the jungle to the other, I just hop from one jungle space to the next using the logs and rocks as connectors.

When you’re on the bridge, remember that only three of us can be on one plank at a time. If you ever find yourself on a plank that’s already full, just move one more space ahead. At the end of the bridge, there’s the idol platform. When we reach this platform, we can each take a jewel from the idol’s hands. But be aware, only two explorers can be on the platform at the same time. And don’t worry, you don’t have to roll the exact number to land on the platform. If you approach the platform and it’s already full, you’ll have to wait until there’s an open space for you to step onto it.

ACTION DIE

When you roll the action die, you’ll see three different icons. One of them is the jewel icon. If you roll the jewel icon, you have the chance to take a jewel from another player who is in the same space as you. You can do this before or after you move. But remember, if your backpack already has a jewel in it, you can’t steal another one. And you can’t steal jewels from canoes.

The second icon is the explorer icon. If you roll this icon, you have the power to move another player’s explorer token that is on the bridge. You can do this at any time during your turn. You can move the token to a more dangerous spot on the same plank. Just make sure to place the explorer firmly on the plank and not hang it from the bridge. But if there are no explorers on the bridge, this action doesn’t happen.

If I roll the idol icon, I get to activate the angry idol and shake the bridge at the start of my turn. But here’s the catch – if there are no explorers on the bridge, I can’t carry out the action. Bummer!

JEWELS

Hey there! When you reach the platform where the idol is, you can grab one shiny jewel from its hand and put it in your backpack. Remember to send your explorer back to the canoe after taking the jewel. Get rid of the jewel by moving over it or passing through the space to deposit it in the canoe. Once you’ve dropped one jewel off, it’s time to go back to the idol and grab another!

Did you know? You can even pick up a jewel that another player dropped! Just land on the spot where the jewel is or pass by it. Just make sure your backpack is empty first before you can pick it up. Happy hunting!

If you accidentally drop a jewel into the water, don’t worry! Just place it back in one of the idol’s hands. But be careful, if the jewel falls onto one of the jungle spaces, it stays there until someone retrieves it. And if it lands on a border like a log or rocks, simply move it to the nearest jungle space. Oh, and if the jewel happens to go off the board completely, just move it back to the closest jungle space.

Now, here’s an exciting part! If you drop a jewel into your canoe, guess what? You get to keep it! How cool is that?

So, how do you win this game?

You keep playing as described above until someone manages to return to the Finish space with two jewels. One jewel has to be in their canoe, and the other one must be in their backpack. The very first person to achieve this amazing feat is declared the winner of the game!
