Welcome to Farkle!
Hey there! Have you heard of Farkle? It’s a really cool dice game that people started playing back in the 1980s. People play it in different ways, so the rules and scoring can vary. Some versions are easy while others are more challenging. You can actually buy a Farkle game from a store, but that’s only if you want official score sheets. You don’t really need to do that if you don’t mind keeping score some other way.
What You Need
To play Farkle, all you need are six regular dice with six sides each and something to keep score with. That’s it!
How to Play
When it’s my turn to play, I roll all of the dice. I can choose to set aside any of the dice that score points and keep rolling, or I can keep the points I have and end my turn. I have to score the dice as I roll them, and I can’t combine points from different rolls. If I’m able to set aside all six dice for points, I can pick them up and keep going.
What is FARKLE?
If I roll the dice and don’t get any points, I’ve just Farkled. That means my turn is over, and I lose all the points I earned. It’s important to keep track of Farkles because there’s a penalty for getting three of them.
Here’s an example of a turn:
Hey there! Let me tell you a story about a game called Farkle. So, I’m Player 1, and I just made my first roll. Quite excited to see what I got, you know? Turns out, I rolled a 1, 2, 2, 4, 5, and 5. Cool, right? Well, I decide to set aside the 1, 5, and another 5. These three dice give me a total of 200 points. Not bad for a start, huh? But I had some more dice left, so I rolled them again. This time, I got a 2, 3, and another 5. I set aside the 5, which adds 50 more points to my score. At this point, I’ve earned a potential 250 points. But you know what? I’m feeling lucky. So I decide to go for it and roll the two remaining dice one last time. Can you guess what happened? Yep, I rolled a 3 and a 4, which gives me a grand total of…zero points! Can you believe it? I just Farkled! That means I lost all the points I had earned so far, and my turn is over.
Let’s Talk Scoring
Okay, let’s break down how points are awarded in this game.
If you roll a single 1, you get 100 points. And each single 5? That’s worth 50 points. Now, if you manage to roll three 1’s, well, that’s when things get interesting. Because that’s worth a whopping 1000 points! Quite a reward for a lucky roll, right?
When you play the game called Farkle, you’ll need to keep these scoring rules in mind. The goal is to accumulate as many points as possible to win the game.
Here are the different ways you can earn points:
- Three 2’s: This combination will give you 200 points.
- Three 3’s: If you roll three 3’s, you’ll earn 300 points.
- Three 4’s: Rolling three 4’s will give you 400 points.
- Three 5’s: Get three 5’s and you’ll earn yourself 500 points.
- Three 6’s: Rolling three 6’s will give you a total of 600 points.
- Three pairs: If you roll three pairs of any number, you’ll earn 750 points.
- Straight: Rolling a straight, which is a sequence of 1-6, will give you 1500 points.
- Two three of a kinds: If you roll two sets of three of a kind, you’ll earn 2500 points.
