Everdell game rules – how to play everdell

By: Dennis B. B. Taylor

Welcome to Everdell!

Step into the magical valley of Everdell, where a bustling civilization of critters thrives amid towering trees and babbling streams. Here, we embark on an exciting journey of exploration and growth, as we strive to create thriving new territories and establish vibrant cities. As the appointed leaders of our critter companions, our mission is simple: guide them towards prosperity and ensure the survival of our cities throughout the changing seasons.

Let’s Get Started!

So, here’s how we set up the game. First things first, we need to place the game board right in the middle of where we’re playing. Then, we take the Ever Tree and plop it right on top of the board. Now, along the riverbank, we’ll create piles of berries, pebbles, resin, and twigs. Make sure to spread them out nice and evenly.

Next, we grab the tokens and put them beside the board. We’ll need to make two different piles, depending on what type of token they are. Oh, and don’t forget to shuffle the cards! Once they’re all mixed up, we place them on the forest clearings where they need to go. If there are two players, grab three cards. If there are three or four players, grab four cards. Any leftover cards can go back in the box for now.

Now, we need to focus on the event tiles. Four basic event tiles go right next to the river, and four special event tiles go on the lower branches of the tree. Any cards that are still left over go back in the box. We’re almost ready to start playing!

When you play this game, you get to pick a color that will represent you. It’s like choosing your own special team! You’ll need to collect two workers in that color. The person who starts the game will draw five cards. Then, the next person will draw six, then seven, and finally, the last person will draw eight cards. Now it’s time to place your workers on the tree! Put one worker on the spring branch, one on the summer branch, and two on the autumn branch.

The player who goes first is called the humblest player. That’s a fancy way of saying they have the least amount of cards. And now, the game is ready to begin! Let the fun and excitement commence!

GAMEPLAY

When playing the game, we take turns. During my turn, I can choose to do three things: place a worker, play a card, or get ready for the next season. I can only pick one action to do per turn. Once I’m done, it’s the next player’s turn.

If I decide to place a worker, I can put them in different parts of Everdell. This is how I gather resources, get more cards, hold events, or go on a trip. There are some spots that everyone can use and some that only one person can use. Only one worker can go to an exclusive spot, but multiple workers can go to a shared spot.

When you play the game, you have a choice to make. You can play a card by paying the necessary requirements from the supply. These cards can come from your hand or from the Meadow deck. To build your city, you place these cards right in front of you. There are two types of cards: Constructions and Cities. You need both to create a thriving city.

The game is played over multiple seasons, from one winter to another. Autumn is the last season where you can take action before the game ends. This can only be done once you have placed all your workers. During this time, you bring back your workers and may even gain more depending on the season. The game ends when winter is over.

END OF GAME

When you can’t take any more actions or you simply don’t want to, you can choose to pass. Passing means you won’t receive any more cards or resources, but the other players can still continue playing until they decide to pass too.

After everyone has finished playing, it’s time to tally up the points. Start by adding up the base value of all your cards, then add any point tokens, card bonuses, events, and any other points you may have. The player with the most points is the winner!
