Down and back – learn how to play with

A Game called Down and Back

Down and Back is a super fun card game that you can play with your friends. It’s designed for 2 to 5 players, so you can invite as many people as you want to join in on the fun. The goal of the game is to have the best 4-card and 3-card hands when the round is over. But here’s the twist – you have to make your bids before you even know what cards you have!

How to Set Up

Before we get started, everyone needs to put some money into the pot. Decide on the amount together before you start playing. After that, the first dealer is chosen randomly, and then the dealer position will move clockwise for each new round.

So, here’s how the game starts: the dealer shuffles the deck and asks the player to their right to cut it. After that, each player gets dealt a 7-card hand, going clockwise. The dealer then flips the top card from the deck to kick off the discard pile, while the rest of the deck goes in the middle of the table as the stockpile.

Now comes the fun part. You can finally look at your hand and get ready to play!

The Order of Cards and Combinations

When it comes to suits, they’re all equal and don’t have different rankings. The highest card is the King, followed by the Queen, Jack, 10, 9, and so on, all the way down to the Ace, which is the lowest card and can never outrank the King.

Combining Cards

There are two types of combinations you can make in this game: 4-card combinations and 3-card combinations. There are eight different ways to make a combination with 4 cards, and six different ways to make a combination with 3 cards. Here’s how they rank:

4-card Combinations

When it comes to playing card games, there are different combinations that can be made with four cards. Let’s take a look!

One of the highest-ranked combinations is called a “4 of a kind.” This combination consists of four cards that have the same rank, but different suits. For example, having four Kings would be the highest possible combination, while having four Aces would be the lowest.

Another combination is called a “prial.” This combination consists of three cards that have the same rank, along with either any card of the last suit needed or any face card. Prials are ranked based on the three of a kind that they contain.

Next up is the “4-card Bouncer.” This combination consists of four cards that are all the same suit and in consecutive order. The ranking of these combinations is determined by the highest card included. It’s worth noting that if two players have equal hands of different suits, they will tie.

The “4-card run” is another combination to consider. It consists of four cards that are in consecutive order, but can be of any suit. The ranking of these combinations is based on the highest card in the run.

Lastly, we have the “4-card flush” combination. This combination includes any four cards that are all of the same suit. The ranking of these combinations is determined by the high cards they contain.

So, when you’re playing card games and you have four cards in your hand, these are some of the combinations you can make. Each combination has its own ranking, so keep that in mind as you strategize your next move!

Let’s dive into some poker hands and how they’re ranked! There’s a lot to learn, but don’t worry – I’ll break it down for you.

Sixth place goes to two pair. It’s pretty self-explanatory – you’ve got two pairs of the same rank of cards. The suits don’t matter for ranking, but if you want to compare the pairs, go for the higher one.

Moving on to seventh place, we’ve got a pair. This hand includes a pair of cards and two other cards. The two additional cards can be face cards, or if they’re not, they must be of a different suit from each other and the pair. If one of the extra cards is a face card, the other card must be of a different suit than the pair. To figure out how this hand ranks, start with the pair, then compare the highest of the remaining cards, and finally look at the lowest card.

Coming in at the eighth and lowest spot is the high card. This hand is pretty straightforward – it includes any four cards, and their ranking depends on the highest card in the hand.

If you thought we were done, think again! Here are some 3-card combinations:

The highest ranked 3-card combination is called a Prial. This fancy name simply means you’ve got three cards of the same rank.

Next up, we have the 3-card bouncer. This combination includes three consecutive cards of the same suit.

When it comes to Rummy, there are different ways to form sets and runs. Let me explain them to you:

The first way is a set. This means having three cards of the same rank, regardless of their suit.

The second way is a run. To make a run, you need to have three cards in consecutive order and the same suit. For example, 4, 5, and 6 of hearts would be a run.

Now, let’s move on to the other ways to make sets and runs in Rummy:

The third way is a 3-card run. This means having three cards in consecutive order, but they can be of any suit.

Fourth is a 3-card flush. This means having any three cards of the same suit.

The fifth way is a pair. This means having a pair of cards with the same rank, along with either a face card or a card of a different suit from the pair.

The sixth and final way is the high card. This means having any three cards that don’t meet the requirements of the other sets and runs.

Let’s talk about how the game is played:

The game starts with the player to the left of the dealer, and then it continues clockwise. During your turn, you’ll first draw a card either from the stockpile or the discard pile. After that, you must discard a card into the discard pile. It can even be the card you just drew.

Once the dealer has taken their sixth turn, the showdown will begin.

If the stock of cards runs out at any time, the dealer will mix up the discard pile and use the top card to create a new discard pile.

Now let’s talk about the showdown. It happens after the dealer has taken their sixth turn. Each player will separate their cards into a 4-card combination and a 3-card combination. First, they show their 4-card combinations, and then their 3-card combinations. We compare all the combinations to determine the winner.

If there’s a tie for the highest combination, the tied players will draw a random card from the stockpile, and the player with the highest card wins.

If a player wins both combinations, they also win the pot. But if no player wins both, the pot remains, and the next round starts with players anteing again.

And that’s how the game goes!

When it comes to the game, you get to be in control. You decide when it ends – whether it’s after a few rounds or a whole evening of playing. If you’re looking to determine a winner, the player who has earned the most money can be crowned the champion.
