Welcome to Chinatown!

In Chinatown, I get to build my very own businesses and aim to outdo my opponents. My turn involves strategically putting blocks and tiles all over the city, ensuring that my businesses thrive in the best locations. If I’m clever, I can even trade businesses with others to form chains and rake in the most money!

Getting Started

First things first, we need to set up the game. We place the board in the middle of the playing area, and each of us chooses a color to represent ourselves. I collect thirty markers that match my color and grab a player aid card. Oh, and let’s not forget, I get a cool fifty thousand dollars too! The rest of the money cards are neatly organized beside the gameboard.

In the game, we start by putting some tiles into a bag and giving it a good shake. Then, we place the building cards next to the board, after shuffling them. The player who last visited a Chinatown will go first, taking the first player card and putting the year marker on the 1965 space. And now, we’re ready to start!

How to Play

Alright, so the game is divided into six rounds, with each round having six phases. We’ll be going from 1965 all the way to 1907, covering about six years. Ready? Let me explain how each round works.

When I’m the one who starts the game, I get to distribute new cards to everyone playing. The number of cards I give each player depends on how many of us are in the game. After I hand out the cards, I get to pick which ones I want to keep and discard the rest. The discarded cards go back into the draw pile for future rounds. Then, we all show each other the cards we kept and put a marker of our own color on each building.

Once we’ve all chosen where to put our markers, it’s time to draw some shop tiles. How many we draw depends on how many people are playing and what round it is.

With our cards revealed, it’s time for the trading phase. This is where anything goes and the market is wide open. There aren’t many rules to follow, so we can get creative with our trades. Once we’re all done trading, we can move on to the next phase.

Now it’s time to place the tiles we acquired during the trading round. We’ll earn money based on the businesses we own. We’ll need a banker to distribute the money, so someone will take on that role. The year marker will also move along the calendar. We repeat this process for six rounds.

Once we’ve gathered all our hard-earned money, it’s time to tally it up and see who’s the champion of this thrilling game! The player with the most money is crowned the ultimate winner, and let me tell you, that’s no small feat!
