Check the Box

Check the Box is a fun twist on the classic card game Go Fish, using a special deck of cards called the Christmas Lights Card Game. In this game, the goal is to collect as many matching sets of cards as possible. To do this, players take turns asking their opponents for a specific card. If the opponent doesn’t have it, they say “check the box” and the asking player draws a card from the deck. The player with the most matching sets at the end of the game wins. It’s a great way to add some holiday cheer to your game nights!

How to Play

To play Check the Box, you’ll need a deck of Christmas Lights cards. The deck should include six cards of each bulb color (red, green, yellow, blue, purple, pink), six bubble cards, and eight plug cards. Each player starts with a hand of five cards.

Ready to Play!

Okay, let’s get started! Here’s what you need to do:

First, mix up the deck so that all the cards are shuffled together. Then, give each player five cards. Make sure to keep the remaining cards face down in a neat pile on the table. This pile is called the “box”.

THE GAME

When the game starts, we all place our matching sets face up in front of us. A set is made up of two cards that look exactly the same. The youngest player goes first. On your turn, you can choose one player and ask them for a card. If they have the card, they give it to you. If they don’t have it, they say “check the box”.

When someone tells you to “check the box”, you have to draw a card from the box, which is also known as the draw pile. This is the end of your turn, and then it’s the next player’s turn.

If you run out of cards in your hand, you have to immediately draw five more cards. If there are not enough cards left in the box, you can only draw as many as you can.

The game goes on until all the cards have been matched up in pairs on the table.

SCOREKEEPING

When you play this game, every time you find a matching pair, you get a point. It’s as simple as that! The more pairs you find, the more points you earn.

THE WINNER

At the end of the game, the player with the highest number of points is crowned the winner. So, keep your eyes peeled and your memory sharp to come out on top!
