Caper game rules – how to play caper

Welcome to CAPER!

Hey there! I’m excited to tell you all about CAPER, an awesome game where you get to play as a leader hiring thieves, giving them cool gear, and going on epic heists across famous places in Europe. The best part? You can choose different cities to play in, so the game is always fresh and exciting! Let’s dive into the details.

Getting Started

First things first, we need to set up the game. You get to pick between three amazing cities: Paris, Rome, or London. Each city has its own set of cards that match its unique vibe. To choose the city, just look for the icon in the lower left corner of the cards. If you’re playing for the first time, I recommend starting with Paris. Trust me, it’s a great choice!

To start playing, first, separate the gear cards, location cards, and thieve cards into their respective decks. Be sure to shuffle each deck well before placing them on the table. Plop the location maps in between all the players. If you need the player aid, go ahead and use the pink side. If not, flip it over and use the wooden side. Grab three cards from the location deck and distribute one onto each player’s mat.

Once the locations are set, plop the round tracker beside the location maps. Don’t forget to put the wooden cube on top of the Thief round slot. You’ll also need 10 coins handy beside the round tracker. And voila! The game is all ready to kick off.

HOW TO PLAY

When you play Caper, you’ll go through six rounds. In each round, there are thief rounds and gear rounds. We keep track of the rounds using a cube on the round tracker. You’ll receive cards that match the round type.

At the start of every round, you’ll get new cards based on the round tracker. The player who has a card on top that matches the round tracker gets to go first.

Each player will then put a card face up on their side of a location. The other player will do the same. After that, you’ll swap your hands, giving your cards to the other player. The player who went first will start again, and this process repeats.

During the thief round, you must place the thieves on a location beside the location map. Keep in mind that each location can only hold up to three thieves at a time.

When it’s time to gear up, you have two options for your gear cards: play them or discard them. Gear cards are placed underneath thief cards when played, and each thief can hold up to three gear cards. If a thief is equipped with three gear cards, they earn a bonus. However, keep in mind that only the top thief card can be flipped.

Once each player has only two cards left, it’s their final turn for the round. They must discard their last card, and the round comes to an end. With that, the wooden cube on the round tracker is moved forward. Cards are then dealt again, and the game goes on like this until the final gear round indicated by the round tracker.

GAME OVER

Hey there! So, after we finish the final gear round, the game comes to a close. Now it’s time to see how many thieves each of us has on each location. And here’s a neat trick – if you’ve got three gear cards, you can add some extra thieves to the mix! The player who ends up with the most thieves at a particular location is the winner. And guess what? They get to turn that location to face them. How cool is that?

Now, let’s talk about points. Points make everything exciting, don’t you think? You’ll want to tally up your points from different sources. You’ve got location rewards, thief cards, gear cards, and stolen goods. Speaking of stolen goods, there are a few types – jewels, antiques, paintings, and wild cards. So, here’s the deal: if you have one stolen good, you score one measly point. But if you manage to collect a whole set of stolen goods, that’s three points for you! And hold on to your hats because if you’ve got three matching stolen goods, you’ll score seven whopping points!

Drumroll, please. The player with the most points is the ultimate winner of the game! Woohoo!

Now, let me introduce myself. I’m Ellie, a proud resident of beautiful Northeast Tennessee. You could say I have a soft spot for animals – I love ’em all, big or small.
