BLURT
Welcome to Blurt, the fast-paced word race game where I’ll give you clues, and you’ll try to come up with as many correct answers as possible. The more right answers you give, the further you’ll move on the board!
SETUP
To begin, place the board in the middle of the table and get the deck of cards ready. Each player chooses a pawn and puts it on the starting space.
The card holder has two sides: Draw and Discard. Make sure the Draw side is facing up.
You can decide which side of the cards we’ll use for the questions. One side has easier questions, but you can also let the Reader choose.
Let’s determine who will be the first Reader. We’ll roll the die, and the player with the highest roll wins and becomes the Reader.
Get Ready to Play!
When we begin playing, I will roll the die to get things started. The number that comes up will determine two important things. First, it will tell us how many spaces our game piece can move on the board. Second, it will indicate which clue I need to read out loud to you.
Hey there! Let me tell you about an awesome game called “Blurt”! It’s super fun, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
So, here’s how it works: I’m going to give you a clue, and you have to try and blurt out the word that you think best defines it. The cool thing is, there are no limits to how many words you can blurt out! So go ahead and let your imagination run wild!
Now, remember, there are no penalties for wrong answers. It’s all about having a great time and letting your creativity shine. Sometimes the most unexpected answers can be the most fun!
Blurt is a game that really gets your brain working. It challenges you to think quickly and put your vocabulary skills to the test. But don’t worry, it’s not about getting everything right. It’s about having a blast and embracing the element of surprise.
Are you ready to jump into the world of Blurt? Trust me, it’s going to be a word-filled adventure like no other. Let’s get started and see where your imagination takes you!
When two players or teams answer correctly at the same time, I’ll read another clue, but only to the players who tied. Then, I’ll judge who came up with the right answer first.
If you’re not sure who answered correctly first, don’t worry! I’ll read another clue to give everyone another chance.
If no one gets the right answer within the given time, nobody moves forward on the board. Instead, the next player, going clockwise, becomes the Reader.
Younger kids variation
For younger kids, we won’t use a die. Instead, you’ll need paper and a pencil. You can play alone or in teams. This time, a parent or teacher will be the Reader and will use the side with the stars. The questions will be easier for you.
This time, you won’t blurt out the answers. Instead, you’ll write them down on the papers provided. The Reader will check if you got the right word and spelled it correctly.
In this game, if you correctly spell the word, you’ll move four spaces. But if you spell it wrong, you’ll only move three spaces. And if you don’t get the word, you won’t move at all.
The winner of the game is the player or team that gets back to the start space first. But if there’s a tie, the player with the fewest spelling mistakes wins.
For a more challenging game, there are also other variations for adults to play.
Scoring
When you get a question right, you move the number of spaces shown on the die.
End of the Game
The game is won when the first player or team returns to the start space. You don’t need to roll the exact number on the die to win.
