Traditionally, players keep score using chips. However, in our version of Bassadewitz, we use a scoring system that’s similar to the popular game called Hearts. It adds a fun twist to the game and keeps things interesting!

Let’s talk about how to play a card game called Trick-Taking. It’s a game where you try to win tricks by playing the highest card of a certain suit. Here’s how it works:

First, I’ll explain how a trick works. The player sitting to the left of the dealer starts by playing a card from their hand onto the table. Then, the other players take turns playing cards that match the suit of the first card played, if they can. If they don’t have a matching card, they can play any card they want.

The highest card played that matches the suit of the first card wins the trick. Let me give you an example to make things clearer:

Let’s say Westin leads with a 7 of Hearts. Jill, who sits next to him, follows suit by playing an Ace of Hearts. Brad, who can’t follow suit, decides to play an Ace of Spades. Finally, Veronica plays the Jack of Hearts. In this case, Jill wins the trick because she played the highest card that matches the lead suit of Hearts.

Now, let’s talk about what happens after a trick is won. The player who won the trick gets to lead the next one. The game continues until all the cards have been played. Once the last trick is played, it’s time to tally up the score for the round. Make sure to collect all the cards after scoring. And don’t forget, the dealer position rotates to the left after each round.

All About Scoring in Card Games

Let me tell you how scoring works in card games. It’s really quite simple!

First, players earn penalty points for the cards they collect. Each card has a certain value:

Aces are worth 11 points.

Kings are worth 4 points.

Queens are worth 3 points.

Jacks are worth 2 points.

However, some cards have no value. The 9’s, 8’s, and 7’s don’t count for anything.

Now, let’s talk about how the points are awarded. The player with the most card points at the end of a round gets 5 penalty points. The player with the second most card points earns 4 penalty points. The player in third place earns 3 penalty points. And the player with the fewest card points doesn’t get any penalty points at all!

But there are a couple of exceptions. If one player manages to capture every single trick, the other three players each get hit with 4 penalty points. And here’s something interesting: if a player collects a whopping 100 card points in a round, but doesn’t manage to capture every trick, the other three players can reduce their penalty points by 4.
