Ready to Play Basari!

Welcome to Basari, where you become a gem merchant! In this thrilling game, you’ll compete against others in a high-stakes market. Get ready to trade, race, collect, and predict the moves of your opponents. The goal is to make a move that no one else is making. But be careful, if you end up making the same move as someone else, you’ll have to negotiate to see who gets to go first!

Getting Set Up

Setting up Basari is a breeze. Just put the game board in the center of the playing area. Each colored area on the board will receive 25 gemstones of the corresponding color. Each player will gather 12 gemstones, with 3 of each color, and display them in front of themselves for everyone to see. Lastly, choose your game piece in the color you like. And just like that, the game is ready to begin!

Game On!

The game consists of three rounds, each with many turns. In a turn, I have to do two things: a Movement Phase and an Action Phase. Once I finish those, I get Bonus Points.

First, I roll my dice during the Movement Phase. The number I roll tells me how many archway spaces I can move my piece. After that, the Action Phase starts.

At the same time, I pick one of my action cards and put it face down in front of me. Everyone else does the same. Then, we all reveal our cards. If only one person picked a card, they get to do the action. If two people picked the same card, they have to trade to see who gets to do it. If more than two people picked the same card, we can’t do the action at all.

When we barter, you and I will start the process. I will offer you gemstones in an attempt to buy the action card. If you don’t accept my offer, you can make a counteroffer. We will continue until we reach an agreement for the action card.

After each round, we will receive bonus points. If you have the most gemstones of one color, you will score points. You will then return three of the gemstones to the carpet on the board. For example, if you have the most red gemstones, you will score fourteen points. If you have the most yellow, you will score twelve points. The player with the most green gemstones will score ten points, and the player with the most blue gemstones will score eight points. Additionally, if your piece has completed a whole lap of the board, you will score ten more points.

The game ends after three rounds of gameplay. We will tally our scores, and the player with the most points wins the game!
