Welcome to Avalon
In the world of Avalon, there is an epic battle between the forces of Good and Evil. They clash fiercely, fighting for control over the destiny of civilization. At the center of this struggle is Arthur, a noble leader who promises to guide Britain towards a glorious future filled with honor and prosperity. On the other side stands Mordred, the embodiment of evil. He seeks to bring darkness and despair to the world.
The Game Setup
To begin playing Avalon, first select the tableau that matches the number of players participating in the game. Place the chosen tableau in the center of the playing area. Next, set up the Quest Cards, Team Tokens, and Score Markers beside the tableau. Place the Round markers on the first Quest space. Finally, distribute two vote tokens to each player.
So here’s how it all goes down: first, we randomly select a player to be the leader. Then, we assign the roles of Good and Evil to the players. When we’ve got 5 or 6 players, there will be two Evil players. But if we’ve got 7, 8, or 9 players, then there will be three Evil players. And finally, if we’ve got a whopping 10 players, then we’ll have four Evil players.
Okay, now that we’ve got that sorted out, it’s time to shuffle the cards. The number of Good and Evil players will determine how we do this. One of the character cards will be the super important Merlin card, while the rest will be loyal servants. On the Evil side, we’ve got the sneaky Assassin card, along with some minions.
Now, each player will be dealt one card. And that’s pretty much it! We’re all set and ready to play.
So, here’s the deal. We need to make sure that all the Evil players are in the loop, and that Merlin knows who they are. How do we do that? Well, it’s actually pretty simple.
Here’s what we’ll do: I’ll need everyone to close their eyes and hold out their fist in front of them. Then, all the Evil players will open their eyes and give each other a little nod of acknowledgment. After that, they’ll close their eyes again and put their thumbs up, so that Merlin can see who’s on their team. Merlin will then close their eyes, all the players will clench their fists, and on the count of three, we’ll all open our eyes together.
Got it? Great! Let’s get this game started!
GAMEPLAY
Imagine this: a thrilling game where you get to join forces with your friends and embark on exciting quests. That’s what the game is all about – it’s packed with rounds of action and loads of fun!
Let me break it down for you. Each round has two phases: the team building phase and the quest phase. In the team building phase, you and your teammates will strategize and assemble the ultimate dream team for the upcoming quest. This is your chance to gather your thoughts, discuss strategies, and decide on the best combination of skills.
But here’s the twist – the team leader has the final say. They have the power to select the members for the quest team. However, don’t worry, because it’s not all up to them. The team leader’s decisions must be approved by everyone else. If the team leader’s proposed team gets a unanimous thumbs-up, then it’s full steam ahead! But if there’s even a single objection, it’s back to the drawing board. The team will be modified and reshuffled until everyone agrees on the perfect lineup.
Once the team has been established and accepted, it’s time for the quest phase. This is where the real action begins! Together, you and your team will embark on an epic adventure, navigating through various challenges and obstacles. Your mission is to successfully complete the quest, using your collective abilities and skills.
Now, let’s dive deeper into the team building phase. The team leader starts by collecting Team tokens, equal to the number of players in the game. This ensures a fair and balanced playing field for everyone involved. Then, it’s your turn to share your thoughts and ideas. Take your time to discuss and debate among yourselves. Who has the best strengths for this particular quest? Who can bring unique perspectives and abilities to the table?
Once the team-building discussions are over, it’s time to cast your votes. Each player selects a vote card, indicating their decision on whether the proposed team should proceed or not. This is the moment of truth. All the votes are revealed, and the fate of the team hangs in the balance. If the majority of players approve, then congratulations – the team is a go! But if the majority says no, don’t worry. It’s not the end of the world; it’s just back to the drawing board.
Once we’ve picked our team, the real adventure begins. Each member of the team receives a set of Quest cards. We each choose a quest from our set and play it in front of us. If all our cards are successful, the quest is a success and we add a score marker to our collection. But if even one card fails, the quest is a bust. We move the marker to the next quest and the leader role passes to the next person in the group.
The End of the Game
There are two ways the game can end. One way is if the Good team successfully completes three quests without the dark forces finding out about Merlin. In that case, the Good team wins the game.
But if the Good team fails to complete three quests in a row, then the evil forces win and the game comes to an end.
