ARRAIAL

Arraial is a special event in Portugal where families gather in the streets to enjoy the summer. It’s a time for fun, food, and drink! You can spot Arraial celebrations from a distance because the streets are decorated with spectacular arches, filled with vibrant balloons, and echoing with popular music! The goal of the game is to throw the biggest and most remarkable celebration in your community. The player who attracts the most visitors will be crowned the winner!

GAME SETUP

To set up the game, first, put the game board in the middle of the playing area. Each player gets a street board and puts it in front of them upright. Then, they place a level car on their board in the right spot. Shuffle the color piece cards and put them face down in a pile that everyone can reach. Take three cards from the pile and put them in the octagon on the designated spots.

You can put the phase marker on the first space of the phase card to keep track of where you are in the game. Pick a starting player and give them the Manjerico token. Finally, put the color pieces and the visitors where everyone can easily reach them. Now, the game is ready to start!

GAMEPLAY

Arial is a game that has three different phases. Each phase involves players taking turns, going around in a circle, clockwise. The goal is to play all the cards that can be placed. On your turn, you can either rotate the octagon ninety degrees or place a colored piece on your street. Each action you choose requires you to spend an action point. You can spend up to three action points per turn.

When it’s your turn, you have to place a colored piece at least once. To do this, you pick a card from the octagon. Then you take the piece shown on the card and put it on your street, getting rid of the card. After you finish your turn, you need to fill the empty spots on the octagon with new cards from the draw pile.

When it’s your turn, you’ll place a card on the octagon. The next player will then start their turn. The phase ends when there are no more cards left for the octagon. We’ll start a new phase by shuffling the discarded cards and creating a new draw pile. Each player moves their level bar down two spaces. We fill any empty spots in the octagon, and a new phase begins!

The Game Ends

The game ends after the third phase if there are no cards left to fill the octagon. We then count the points each player has earned on their street. Each visitor is worth one point, and each couple is worth two points. The player with the most points wins the game!
