AMERIGO
Join me on an epic adventure as I accompany Amerigo Vespucci on his quest to explore new lands. Together, we’ll journey through the enchanting islands of South America, constructing settlements and securing vital trading routes. But here’s the twist: our actions will be determined by a magnificent cube tower! This tower is no ordinary game piece; it’s filled with a variety of exciting actions that we can choose from. However, as we progress, our options will become limited. So, get ready to travel, earn points, and stay safe!
SETUP
Let’s begin our journey by setting up the game board. Lay out all the island tiles, forming a beautiful and interconnected island. Make sure that the water zones are not completely surrounded by land. The land spaces should connect both diagonally and orthogonally, creating a realistic map. Now, let’s focus on the time order space. Arrange the time markers in ascending order, so we can keep track of our progress. With everything set up, we’re ready to embark on this thrilling adventure!
Once you’ve decided to play the game, you’ll need to gather your materials. Grab a player sheet and choose a color for your game pieces. Each player will place a scoring disc on the starting space of their progress, gold tracks, and cannons. Don’t forget to lay the village tiles face down next to their neutral landscape tiles!
Now, it’s time to set up the gameboard. Put the storage board next to it. Take the pirate meeples and shuffle them, placing five face down in the pirate areas. Put the remaining pirate markers back in the box. Mix up the progress tokens and distribute them evenly on the progress spaces.
When the game starts, each player places their victory point discs on the first space of the victory point track. We stack them randomly and the player whose discs land on top gets to go first. Then, we place the dice tower next to the storage board. Finally, we drop all 49 cubes into the tower. And with that, the game is ready to begin!
Let’s Play!
The game is played in five rounds, with seven phases in each round. In the first phase, the first player drops all the blue cubes into the dice tower. Then, in the next phase, we drop the cubes of the corresponding color into the tower.
Move Your Ships
Hey there! Are you ready to learn about some cool actions you can take in this awesome game? Let’s dive in!
Add Blue Cubes to the Dice Tower
Alright, here’s the deal. When you choose this action, you get to add blue cubes to the dice tower. How cool is that? The first player who picks this action will place two of their ships on the frame. You can have as many ships as you want on a frame space, but remember, each eater space in an island can only have one ship. And guess what? You can establish as many trading posts as you want on each island. How awesome is that?!
Load Cannons
Now, let’s talk about loading cannons. When you choose this action, you’ll be using the black cubes. Exciting, right? You get to move your cannon disc on your player sheet one space to the right. How far you can move? Well, that depends on the number of action points you have. You can move one spot for each action point, but keep in mind, the maximum distance you can move is twelve spaces. That’s a pretty good range if you ask me!
Plan
Planning is key, my friend. When you choose this action, you’re all about strategizing and making smart decisions. Take your time, think it through, and plan your moves carefully. Planning is where the magic happens!
If you choose this action, you can collect landscape tiles or village tiles from your supply and put them to the side of your player sheet. When you take one of your village tiles, it costs one AP. Depending on the side of the landscape tile, it can cost you anywhere from one to six AP. This action requires the use of red cubes.
Make Progress
If you choose this action, you will use the brown cubes. You will move your progress disc one space clockwise for each action point you spend. You will earn victory points based on the highest number you reach.
Build
I use green cubes to build. I can build neutral landscapes or villages from my own supply. Building a village tile only costs one action point, while neutral landscape tiles can cost anywhere from one to six action points, depending on their size. But I have to follow the rules when I build.
I can only build on land. The tile has to be placed next to my trading post or another player’s tile. If I build over a commodity space, I have to take the commodity token. I can’t build over another trading post. And I can build multiple tiles on the islands too.
Buying Production Tokens
When I use yellow cubes to buy production tokens, it costs me two to four action points. The cost of the production token is shown on the token itself. Once I buy them, I place the production tokens on my player sheet.
Get Ready for Something Special
Hey there! Let’s talk about a special action in this game. We have these cool white cubes that come into play here. When it’s your turn, you have a choice. You can either mix up the player order or take a special action. How exciting!
If you decide to mix up the player order, you’ll get to move your disc on the special action track. For every special action point you spend, you can move your disc one space forward. It’s a great way to shake things up and have some fun!
Now, if you’d rather take a special action, you can do that too! Even if there are no cubes left, you still get to take your special action. How cool is that?
All Good Things Must Come to an End
After playing 5 rounds, the game comes to an end. All the rounds are finished, and then it’s time for the final scoring. Let me break it down for you.
First, we turn all the treasure chests and progress tokens into gold. Every gold you have is worth one victory point. So count up your gold!
Next, let’s talk about goods. To score victory points for goods, you need to do some multiplication. Multiply the number of commodity tokens you have by the number of production tokens. The result is how many victory points you score. Pretty simple, right?
Now, let’s move on to the progress track. Take a look at where you were on the track. The number on that spot is the number of victory points you earn. So, the further you progressed, the more points you get.
Oh, and don’t forget about the special action track. The point value you reached on that track also gives you victory points. Score them too!
Now, add up all your victory points from gold, goods, progress track, and special action track. The player with the most victory points wins the game! Good luck!
