Ambition game rules – how to play ambition

AMBITION

Welcome to Ambition, a thrilling 4-player game that embraces competition and excitement! Unlike other games, there are no secrets here – everyone knows who’s winning at any given time. Your mission is to take just the right amount of tricks, not too many and not too few. Strategy is everything as you aim to score the most points, but be careful not to take too many tricks and lose those hard-earned points!

SETUP

To get started, let’s set up the game. Begin by shuffling the deck and dealing out all the cards until there are none left. Each player should have a hand of 13 cards. Now, before we begin playing tricks, each player will pass three cards to the person on their left. This adds an exciting twist to the game!

Alright, everyone, the game is ready to begin!

GAMEPLAY

In the card game Ambition, I’ll place my card face up in the trick, following the clockwise order. The winner of the trick gets to lead the next one. If I have a card that matches the suit of the first card played, I must play a card of that suit. The trick is won by playing the highest-ranking card of that suit.

Once the trick is done, all the cards are collected and placed face down near the winner. The game consists of thirteen tricks. After each round, we calculate our scores. If I have accumulated at least 100 points by the end of the round, the game ends. But if no one has reached 100 points, we play another round.

It’s important to note that the points earned in tricks are different from the points scored. The ultimate goal is to score 100 points. If I manage to collect 51 points or more, I earn 40 points, while all the other players earn nothing.

If I haven’t taken 51 points, the way scores are calculated changes. If I don’t take any tricks, I’ll earn 20 points. If two players don’t take any tricks, they each get 10 points. If I take tricks but they add up to less than 10 points, I won’t earn any points. If I earn more than 10 points but I’m not the highest scorer, I’ll earn the points I earned. However, if I have the highest score, I won’t earn any points.

The game ends when I have at least 100 points at the end of a round. The player with the highest score wins the game.

House Rules

The first trick must be played with a diamond card, and everyone will play their cards blind, face down.

If a King, Queen, Jack, or Ace of the same suit as the first card played is already on the table, then the player who plays the number two card of the same suit wins the trick.

So here’s the deal, folks. We’re talking about a game where winning is everything. And the way to win is to score the most points. Pretty straightforward, right? But there’s a little twist. As you play, the points are made public for everyone to see. And to keep track of it all, we use these little things called poker chips. They show where each player stands in the game. Nice and simple.

GAME OVER

Now, let me fill you in on how the game ends. It’s all about hitting that magic number: 100 points. Once a player reaches that milestone at the end of a round, the game is done. Wrapped up. Finito. And guess what? The player with the highest score at that moment is the winner! Easy peasy.

So there you have it, folks. In this game, it’s all about the points, the chips, and the sweet taste of victory. Keep your eyes on that target of 100 points, and may the best player win!
