ALHAMBRA
Welcome to Alhambra, a game where your architectural prowess will be immortalized. It’s up to you to hire the best builders and reward them with fair wages in their local currency. The goal? Create the most stunning buildings in all the land! Who will be celebrated for their grand designs, and who will be forgotten?
SETUP
Let’s get started with the setup. Each player will receive a starting tile and two matching counters in their chosen color. Place one counter on top of the starting tile and the other in the bottom-left corner of the scoring board. All of the building tiles will be placed in a bag.
Got it! Let me explain how the game starts. First, we remove four building tiles and put them on the building market. Then, each player gets their own reserve board and points table. We take out two scoring cards from the deck and set them aside, shuffling the rest. Now, it’s time to distribute the money. Each player receives their share. Next, we start dealing the cards. One card at a time, until every player has at least twenty cards. After that, the next player gets their money. And that’s how we kick off the game!
Alright, let’s get started, shall we? The player with the fewest number of cards takes the first turn. We begin by placing four cards face up in the middle, next to the building market. Any remaining money cards are divided into five piles. We put the first scoring round card in the second pile and the second scoring round card in the fourth pile. We stack the piles, with the first on top and the fifth on the bottom. And with that, the game is ready to kick off!
How to Play
Alright, here’s how it goes: the game is played one turn at a time. Each turn has three actions that you must take. First, you collect money. Then, you use that money to buy and place a building tile. And finally, you get to redesign your Alhambra. Once you’re done with your turn, any cards or money you used are replaced with brand new ones.
When it’s my turn to play, I can pick up one of the face-down money cards. If I’m lucky, I might be able to grab more than one, as long as the total doesn’t go over five. With my newfound cash, I can start buying some building tiles. Then it’s time to decide where to put them: my Alhambra or my reserve board.
Now, here’s where the fun begins. There are three ways I can give my Alhambra a makeover. First, I can take a tile from my reserve and add it to my Alhambra. Second, I can remove a tile from my Alhambra and put it back in my reserve. And lastly, I can swap a tile in my reserve for one on my board. Just remember, there are rules to follow when it comes to building in my Alhambra.
When building a structure, it’s important to make sure that all the tiles are arranged properly. This means that all the roofs should be facing the same direction. Additionally, the sides of the tiles that are next to each other must be made of the same materials.
Furthermore, it’s important to connect all the tiles together by at least one side. You can’t leave any empty spaces around your tiles. So make sure to plan your placement carefully.
After I finish my turn, it’s your turn to play. We’ll take turns in a clockwise order, going around the group. The game will continue like this until there are not enough tiles left in the bag for us to draw more.
That’s the end of the game!
Hey there! Let me tell you a little something about how this game works. When all the building tiles are used up from the bag and there aren’t enough left for players to draw four tiles each, the game ends. But that’s not all! The remaining tiles still have a purpose. They go to the players who have the most money in a specific currency. If two or more players are tied for the richest, the building tile stays in the market.
After that, it’s time for the final scoring round. The player who holds the top position on the board at the end of this round is the winner! And if there happens to be a tie, well, then both players win the game. How cool is that?
