Agricola: The Thrilling Farming Adventure

Welcome to the captivating world of Agricola, where you’ll embark on a turn-based journey spanning 14 rounds. In this game, you become a skilled farmer with a dream of transforming your humble farmyard into a bustling paradise. Can you balance the demands of tending to your land and raising a family, or will you fall short in the face of adversity? With the plague behind you, it’s time to seize the opportunity and flourish!

The Beginning: Setup

Let’s kick off this exhilarating game by setting up the playing field. First, make sure the game boards are arranged correctly. Choose a vibrant color that represents you throughout this thrilling adventure, and collect the corresponding playing pieces. Place your colorful tokens right in front of you, ready to embark on this exciting journey.

Let’s start setting up the game board. First, we need to place a wooden hut tile on two of the building spaces in the farmyard. Make sure to also put a family member in each of the rooms. The rest of the game pieces can stay in the bag for now. We’ll use them later. Don’t forget to separate the housing tiles and keep them next to the game board.

Now, let’s organize the cards. Sort them by the color of their backs. Then, arrange the round cards based on the stage of the game. Put them in a small pile beside the board, with stage 6 at the bottom and stage 1 on top. If we have three to five players, let’s place the action cards on the spaces on the left side of the first board. But if we’re playing with just two players, we won’t need any action cards. Finally, sort the occupation cards according to the number of players specified on each card.

To start playing the game, let’s shuffle the deck of minor improvement cards and deal seven cards to each player. We can set aside the remaining cards for now. The major improvement cards should be placed face up on the major improvements board. The begging cards can be kept to the side of the playing area. Don’t forget to give each player a summary card as well.

Now, we need to choose a starter player. This player will receive the first player marker and two food tokens. The other players will begin with three food tokens each. With everything set up, we’re ready to dive into the game!

GAMEPLAY

The game is divided into six stages and 14 rounds. Every round follows the same pattern, which consists of four phases. After the fourth, seventh, ninth, eleventh, thirteenth, and fourteenth rounds, there will be a harvest.

When I play Round card, I flip it over and place it on the board. This is something that all players can do, and it happens in every round. All the actions that normally happen at the start of a round, we do now.

After that, we need to put goods and Food on the spaces that have arrows. We go around the group in a circle, starting with the first player. Each player takes one person from their farm and puts them on an action space. Remember, each space can only be used by one person at a time. When we finish the actions, we take our family members back home.

It’s Harvest Time!

When it’s time to gather crops, there are three stages involved: the field phase, the feeding phase, and the breeding phase. In the field phase, I move a piece of grain or vegetable from the field to my supply. I can also get more food by using occupation or improvement cards.

In the feeding phase, I have to make sure my family is fed. Each family member requires two food tokens. If I have a new baby, they only need one food token. If I have improvements with a cooking symbol, I can use animals for food. But if I can’t feed my family, I have to collect begging cards.

During the breeding phase, I get a baby animal for every two animals of the same kind. But I can’t turn baby animals or their parents into food right away. The game ends after the fourteenth round when the harvest is complete.

Game Over

When the 14th round is over, the game comes to an end. You will need to add up your points on the score pad to determine the winner. Whoever has the most victory points is declared the winner!
