Get Your Hands on Acquire!
When you play Acquire, you become an investor with a mission to make savvy choices and maximize your profit. As you invest in different businesses, you’ll see them grow and even merge, unlocking exciting bonus opportunities. By buying, trading, and selling stocks, you’ll build your bank and increase your chances of claiming victory!
Setting Up Is a Cinch
Are you ready to dive into the world of Acquire? Let’s get started! First, open the game box and remove all the parts. Take care to punch out the information cards without tearing them. Now, place the game board in the center of your play space, making sure the gray tiles are grouped beside it.
Alright, so here’s the deal: I’m in charge of being the banker for the stock market game. That means I get to set up the stock market tray and hand out the money. I’ll give each player six thousand dollars, which includes five one-hundred-dollar bills, three five-hundred-dollar bills, and four one-thousand-dollar bills. Oh, and each player also gets an information card to help them out.
Now, we need to figure out who goes first. To do that, we’ll draw a tile from the cluster and put it on the matching space on the board. The player closest to the 1A tile gets to go first. After that, we’ll each draw six more tiles and keep them hidden from the others.
Alright, everyone, it’s time to gather up your stuff. Once we all have our things, we’ll decide whether we want to show them off or keep them hidden. Trust me, it gets even more exciting when things are kept secret. Let’s get this game started!
The Rules of the Game
Each turn in Acquire consists of three simple steps. First, you place a tile on the board. Then, if you feel like it, you can buy up to three stocks. Finally, draw a new tile from the cluster. Once you’ve finished your turn, the next player will do the same. Easy, right?
When you play a tile, you have the option to either start a new corporation or combine existing corporations. Which option you choose depends on where you place the tile. If you place the tile next to an empty space, a new corporation is formed. In this case, you get to choose a building marker from the tray and place it on any of the tiles in the new corporation. As an added bonus, you also receive a founder’s stock from the tray!
On the other hand, if you place a tile between two existing corporations, the larger corporation will absorb the smaller one. This means that the two corporations will merge into one, with the larger one taking control.
If a merger happens, I have to show you all the stocks that I possess for the smaller company that got lost. The person with the most stocks becomes the majority stockholder, while the one with the second most stocks becomes the minority stockholder. Then, the banker gives us the money we are entitled to, as stated on the cards. Throughout the game, we can decide whether to keep, sell, or trade our stocks.
\
After I place my tile, I can buy stocks if I want to. But I can only buy up to three stocks per turn. I have the option to purchase stocks for any active corporation. However, if I’m out of money, I won’t be able to buy stocks. Once I’ve bought all the stocks I want, I’ll draw a tile from the cluster to replace the one I just played.
When I play this game, I can only draw one tile per turn. After I draw a tile, my turn is over, and then it’s the next player’s turn. We keep playing like this until the game ends.
THE END OF THE GAME
The game comes to an end when one player tells us that all the corporations are safe or that one of them has at least forty-one tiles. The player can choose whether or not to announce this during their turn. After the announcement, we all count our bonuses for any shares we have and tally our money.
Each player counts their money individually. The player with the most money will be the winner!
