So, when the game starts, everyone gets a bunch of cards in their hands. These are the cards you need to get rid of. But wait, the fun doesn’t end there! You also have these special piles called 3UP 3DOWN piles. The goal is to clear out these piles as well. If you manage to do that, you’re on your way to victory!

Now, let’s talk about the deal. The cards are shuffled and dealt evenly among all players. Each player will have their own hand of cards and their own 3UP 3DOWN piles. And remember, the main objective is to not only discard the cards in your hand but also the ones in your 3UP 3DOWN piles.

Now that you know the basic rules, it’s time to gather your friends or family, shuffle those cards, and have a blast with 3UP 3DOWN. Enjoy!

When you play the 3UP 3DOWN card game, you’ll need a deck of 84 cards. The deck is made up of three colors, each color having two sets of cards numbered from 1 to 10. In addition to these, there are also Clear cards and Clear +1 cards. The green cards have an extra Clear +2 card.

To start the game, shuffle the deck and give each player three cards face down. Remember, you can’t look at these cards! Then, deal six more cards to each player. Now comes the fun part. Each player chooses three cards from their hand to put face up on top of the three face-down cards. This way, everyone has a hand of three cards. The remaining cards are placed face down on the table in the middle of the players.

THE GAME

Let me explain how each turn works. It’s actually pretty simple! You start by getting rid of a card, and then you draw a new one. Easy, right? The game doesn’t start with any cards in the discard pile. The person who goes first gets to choose which card they want to start the pile with, so they have a little advantage.

GETTING RID OF CARDS

When it’s your turn, you have to get rid of some cards. But there are some rules to follow. The card you play has to be the same as or higher than the card that’s already on top of the discard pile. (Except for the very first play of the game – that can be any card you want!).

If you have more than one card that can be played, you can play them all at once! It’s like saying “Bye bye!” to all those cards at the same time. Pretty cool, huh?

Getting rid of all the cards in the discard pile

When you’re playing a card game, there are a few ways to clear the discard pile and remove it from play. One way is by playing three or more cards with the same number. It can be three cards from just one player or three cards with the same number played by different players. In either case, this action will clear the discard pile and take it out of the game.

The thing about clear cards is that they have a special power: they can make the discard pile disappear. There are three types of clear cards: the standard Clear card, the Clear +1 card, and the Clear +2 card.

The standard Clear card does exactly what it says: it removes the discard pile from play. When this card is played, the discard pile vanishes into thin air. It’s like it was never there.

The Clear +1 card takes it a step further. Not only does it get rid of the discard pile, but it also allows the same player to discard again. They can choose to draw a card from the draw pile before making their second discard. It’s like a free pass to get rid of more cards.

Now, the Clear +2 card is where things really get exciting. This powerful card not only removes the discard pile, but it also gives the player TWO extra discard actions. Just imagine the possibilities! Again, the player can choose to draw a card before their initial extra discard action. But here’s the catch: they can’t draw before the third and final discard action. That would be too much of a good thing.

But wait, there’s more. If a player plays the Clear +2 card from their face-up or face-down pile, and their third discard is lower in value than the second discard, they have to pay the price. They must pick up the entire discard pile, as a little reminder not to get too greedy.

If you can’t throw a card onto the pile, you have to pick up the whole thing and add it to your hand. That’s the end of your turn.

DRAW

After you finish throwing cards away, draw more cards until you have three in your hand. But if you pick up the discard pile and your hand already has more than three cards, you don’t get to draw any more until you have less than three cards in your hand.

3UP 3DOWN PILE

The piles of cards in front of you are called 3UP 3DOWN piles. You can’t play cards from these piles until you’ve used up all the cards in the draw pile and your hand is empty. And you have to play all the face-up cards before you can turn over and play the face-down cards.

If you can’t get rid of the cards in your 3UP 3DOWN piles and you have to pick up the discard pile, you can’t play from your 3UP 3DOWN piles until your hand is empty again.

How to Win

We keep playing until one player has gotten rid of all their cards from their hand and 3UP 3DOWN piles. That player is the winner.
