Zombicide: Black Plague Zombies Phase
Hey there, zombie slayers! Today, I want to talk to you about a very important aspect of the popular game Zombicide: Black Plague – the Zombies Phase.
Once you’ve set up the game board and chosen your survivor, it’s time to face off against the relentless zombie horde. During the Zombies Phase, the undead will rise and roam the streets, hungry for human flesh. It’s your job to survive the onslaught and complete your objectives.
But how does the Zombies Phase work? Well, let me break it down for you. At the start of the phase, you’ll draw cards from the Zombie card deck. These cards determine where new zombies will spawn and how they will behave. Pay close attention to these cards and strategize accordingly, as they can make or break your chances of survival.
As the phase progresses, you’ll activate any zombies that are already on the board. These brain-hungry creatures will move and attack according to their specific behaviors. Some may shamble slowly, while others might sprint towards you with unnatural speed. Be prepared for anything!
One of the key factors to keep in mind during the Zombies Phase is noise. Yes, noise can be both your best friend and your worst enemy. Making noise can attract nearby zombies, potentially overwhelming you and your fellow survivors. However, noise can also be used strategically to lure zombies away from important locations or create a diversion. It’s a double-edged sword that requires careful consideration.
As you navigate the treacherous streets, you’ll need to use your weapons wisely. Melee attacks can be effective for taking down zombies up close, while ranged attacks allow you to pick off enemies from a safe distance. Remember to manage your resources and choose your targets wisely. Your survival depends on it!
Furthermore, keep in mind that some zombies are tougher than others. You’ll encounter different types of undead, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. It’s crucial to understand these variations and adapt your tactics accordingly. For example, armored zombies may require more firepower to take down, while necromancers have the ability to summon additional undead.
Overall, the Zombies Phase is a critical part of Zombicide: Black Plague that adds tension, excitement, and a sense of urgency to the game. It’s a race against time as you fight to stay alive and complete your objectives. So grab your weapons, prepare your wits, and get ready to face the zombie apocalypse head-on. Good luck, brave survivor!
Zombies may seem scary, but they’re not exactly rocket scientists. You can pretty much predict what they’re going to do. Unless there’s a necromancer involved, that’s when things get tricky. When facing off against a necromancer, you need to be smarter. Even a small, determined group can hold off the mindless horde. Just stay alert, stay quiet, and strike without mercy, because you won’t get any mercy from them.
After all the players have activated their Survivors, it’s the Zombies’ turn to play. They don’t need anyone to tell them what to do, they do it themselves. Here’s what happens:
Step 1 – Activation
Each Zombie takes its turn and uses its Action to either Attack or Move, depending on its situation. First, resolve all the Attacks, and then do all the Moves. Each Zombie can either Attack or Move with one Action.
Attack
When you’re playing as a Survivor, you’ll notice that every Zombie in the same area as you will perform an attack. This attack is quite powerful as it’s always successful, without any need for dice rolls. Unfortunately, this means that you will definitely be wounded. Each attack from a Zombie will cause one wound.
Now, when it comes to sharing these wounds among the Survivors in the area, it’s up to the players to decide how they want to distribute them. This means that even if it seems unfair, all of the wounds can be inflicted on a single Survivor if that’s what the group decides. It’s a tough choice, but it’s all part of surviving the Zombie invasion!
When you get hurt, your Wound Bar goes up by one point. Once it reaches 3 points, you’re out of the game. Your character gets removed, and all their stuff gets thrown away.
There’s something called a Feeding Frenzy! When zombies attack, they attack in groups. Even if there are more zombies than necessary to kill someone, they all join in on the attack if they’re in the same area.
For example, let’s say there are seven zombies and two survivors in the same area. Six zombies could kill both survivors, but the players decide to focus all their attacks on one survivor. It’s a tough situation, but at least that survivor will be remembered!
Armor Rolls
Armor: When I wear an armor Equipment card on my Body, I can attempt Armor rolls to avoid getting Wounds. For each Wound I’m about to receive, I roll a dice. If the result is equal to or higher than the Armor number on the armor card, that Wound is negated. It’s pretty amazing when I get lucky and manage to endure all the Wounds for my team without a scratch!
Shield: If I don’t have actual armor on, I can still use a Hand-held Shield to make Armor rolls. However, if I do have armor on, the Shield allows me to re-roll the dice once for the Armor rolls. I roll all the dice again and replace the previous result with the new one. In some cases, the Shield could have a higher Armor value than the armor itself (like when I have a 5+ Leather Armor). If that happens, I can choose to use the Shield’s Armor value instead, but I won’t get another re-roll.
When it comes to wounds from Abominations and Dragon Fire, no amount of Armor will save you.
Time to Move
If they haven’t attacked yet, the Zombies use their Action to move one Zone closer to the Survivors:
- Zombies choose where they want to go.
- First, they head towards the Zone with Survivors in their line of sight that has the most Noise tokens. Each Survivor counts as a Noise token.
- If they can’t see any Survivors, they go to the loudest Zone.
In both cases, distance doesn’t matter. A Zombie will always go for the noisiest meal, whether they can see it or just hear it.
When it comes to Zombies in the game, they have a specific way of moving. They always move towards their destination Zone by taking the shortest path available. If there are no open paths to the noisiest Zone, they will still move towards it as if all doors were open, except locked doors will stop them. It’s a bit strange to see them moving that way, but that’s just how they work.
Now, let’s talk about how the different types of Zombies move. Two Walkers will go in one direction, while the other two take a different route. The Fatty joins one group of Walkers, and another Fatty is added to the other group. The three Runners also split up, with two joining the first group, and the other one joining the second group. To even things out, an additional Runner is added to the second group.
But hold on, there’s something important we need to discuss. Necromancers have their own rules when it comes to movement. They always move towards the nearest non-Necromancer Spawn Zone. So they don’t follow the same rules as regular Zombies. It’s something you need to keep in mind while playing the game.
Playing as the Runners
When it comes to those we refer to as “runners,” they rely on their instinct and incredible speed to make up for their inability to think things through. They have the ability to rip a person apart in mere moments, so it is imperative that you take appropriate action. Make sure you keep your trusty crossbow at the ready and do not allow any of them to get too close to you.
In this game, I get two Actions every turn. Once all the zombies, including me, have finished their first Action, I get to take my second Action. During this second Action, I can either Attack a Survivor in my Zone or Move if there are no survivors to Attack.
Let me give you a couple of examples to help you understand better.
EXAMPLE 1: Imagine there’s a group of three Runners and a Fatty. We are one Zone away from a Survivor. For our first Action, we don’t have anyone to Attack in our Zone, so we decide to Move into the Zone with the Survivor. After that, we get to perform our second Action. Since we are now in the same Zone as the Survivor, we Attack. Each of us inflicts one Wound, which kills the Survivor.
EXAMPLE 2: Picture this: I am in the same Zone as a Survivor, and there’s a Walker in the adjacent Zone. With my first Action, I Attack the Survivor and inflict a Wound. The Walker sees the Survivor and decides to Move into the Zone. Then, for my second Action, I Attack the Survivor again, causing a second Wound.
EXAMPLE 3: Now, let me give you a more challenging scenario. There’s a Survivor in the same Zone as three Walkers, two Fatties, and two Runners. All the zombies Attack at once, causing a total of seven Wounds (which is enough to kill the Survivor). None of us Move because we all Attacked. After that, it’s time for me and the other Runners to take our second Action. Since there’s no one left to Attack, we decide to Move one Zone closer to our next meal.
Step 2 – Generate
I’m going to explain what happens in the second step of the process. I know it may seem confusing at first, but bear with me, and I’ll break it down for you.
So, in the previous step, we selected a bunch of ideas and combined them to form new and creative concepts. But we’re not done yet. Now, it’s time to bring those concepts to life.
In this step, we use a special tool called a generator. It’s like a magical machine that takes our ideas and turns them into something real. It’s pretty amazing!
When you press the “Generate” button, the computer takes the ideas we’ve selected and uses an algorithm to create new content. It does this by rearranging words, changing sentence structures, and adding in some fresh ideas of its own.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. Is the generator going to replace human creativity? Absolutely not! This tool is just here to help us, to give us a nudge in the right direction. We still need those human minds to bring the final touch of magic to the content.
Just like a chef uses different ingredients to create a delicious meal, we use the generator to spice up our ideas and make them even more interesting. It’s all about collaboration between humans and technology.
So, when you’re using the generator, don’t worry about it taking over. Embrace it as your partner in creativity, and let it inspire you to come up with new and exciting content. Together, we can create something truly unique and amazing.
So go ahead, press that “Generate” button, and let your imagination run wild! The possibilities are endless, and the world is waiting for your creative genius.
Let me tell you about the Quest maps. They’re pretty cool because they show where the Zombies pop up at the end of each Zombies’ Phase. These spots are called Spawn Zones.
So, here’s how it works. You pick a Spawn Zone, then draw a Zombie card. On that card, there’s a line for each color of danger level – Blue, Yellow, Orange, and Red. You look at the line that matches the danger level of the most experienced Survivor still playing. Then, you put down the right number and type of Zombies as shown on the card.
Let’s go through each Spawn Zone one by one, starting with the same one each time and going clockwise. After the Zombie deck is empty, gather all the discarded Zombie cards and shuffle them to create a new deck.
Here’s an example to help you understand. Ann has 5 experience points, so she’s in the Blue Danger Level. Clovis, on the other hand, has 12 experience points, making him in the Yellow Danger Level. To figure out how many Zombies appear, look at the Yellow line, which corresponds to Clovis, the most experienced Survivor.
Spawn Zones by Color
Hey there! Let me tell you about some exciting stuff in the game. So, there are these Quests that have these cool blue and/or green colored Spawn Zone tokens. But here’s the twist – these Zones don’t have any Zombies right away. Nope! They only unleash the undead when a specific event occurs, like when you complete an objective of the same color. It’s like a surprise waiting to happen!
Ready for more action?
Now, here’s a special card, the Extra Activation card. When you reveal one of these, guess what? No Zombies show up in the Zone mentioned on the card. Instead, all the Zombies of a particular type get an extra Activation. That means they get to move, attack, or do something crazy. It’s like they’re on steroids or something! But hey, remember, these cards don’t have any effect when you’re playing at the Blue Danger Level. So, it’s all about the strategy, my friend!
Double Spawn Cards
Are you ready to learn about an exciting aspect of gaming? Let me introduce you to double spawn cards! Now, you may be wondering, what exactly are double spawn cards? Well, let me tell you. These cards, like their name suggests, have the incredible power to spawn not just one, but two objects or characters in a game. Isn’t that fascinating?
Picture this: you’re playing a game, and suddenly, with the magical touch of a double spawn card, two characters or objects enter the game simultaneously. This unexpected twist adds a whole new level of excitement and challenge to your gaming experience.
I’m sure you’re curious about how double spawn cards work. It’s quite simple, really. When you draw a double spawn card, you get the chance to summon two objects or characters at the same time. This can give you a strategic advantage over your opponents, let you cover more ground, or even create unexpected combinations. The possibilities are endless!
Imagine you’re playing a game where you control a team of heroes. With a double spawn card, you could summon two powerful warriors at once, doubling your strength and overwhelming your enemies. Or perhaps you’re playing a racing game, and with a double spawn card, you can instantly summon two speed boosts, propelling you far ahead of your competitors.
But beware, double spawn cards are not without risk. While they can be incredibly beneficial, they can also pose a challenge. Sometimes, too much of a good thing can be overwhelming. It’s important to stay alert and adapt to the sudden increase in objects or characters on the playing field.
In conclusion, double spawn cards are an incredible addition to any game. They bring an element of surprise, strategy, and excitement. By utilizing the power of these cards, you can elevate your gaming experience to new heights. So, next time you’re playing a game and you come across a double spawn card, embrace it with open arms. You never know what amazing possibilities await!
Double Spawn Cards

Now, let’s talk about how double spawn cards work. It’s easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy! When you draw a double spawn card, you get to bring TWO things into the game at the very same time. It’s like doubling your luck! This can give you a massive advantage over your opponents. You can cover double the ground, create unexpected combos, or even unleash a powerful duo that will blow everyone away!
Imagine this: you’re the hero in a game, fighting off enemies left and right. A double spawn card falls into your hands, and you summon not one, but two fearless warriors. It’s like having a mini army at your command! With your newfound strength, you can conquer anything that stands in your way. Talk about an epic win!
Now, hold your horses, partner! Double spawn cards may be awesome, but they’re not without their challenges. Remember, too much of a good thing can be overwhelming. You’ve got to keep your eyes peeled and adapt to the sudden surge of characters and objects on the game board. It’s all part of the thrilling ride!
So, in a nutshell, double spawn cards are the real deal. They bring an explosive mix of surprise, strategy, and pure gaming awesomeness. When you stumble upon one of these cards, embrace it with all your might. You won’t believe the incredible adventures that lie ahead. Get your game face on and brace yourself for double the fun, because double spawn cards are about to take your gaming experience to a whole new level!
When you’re playing the game, and you happen to draw a Double Spawn card, you might be wondering why no Zombies show up in the specified Zone. Well, it’s actually quite simple – instead of just drawing one Zombie card for the next Spawn Zone (if it’s during the Spawn Step) or building Zone (if it’s when you’re spawning in a building), you draw two Zombie cards.
Now, here’s the thing – these two Zombie cards that you drew are resolved one after the other, in the order they were drawn. So, if one of the cards happens to be another Double Spawn card, don’t worry! Just resolve the standard Spawn card first, and then deal with the Double Spawn card.
- If another Double Spawn card is drawn, I apply it to the following Spawn Zone or building Zone.
- If I draw two Double Spawn cards on the same Zone, the next Zone receives four cards’ worth of Zombies!
If I draw a Double Spawn card for the last Spawn Zone or building Zone, I use it for an extra double Spawn on the first Spawn Zone or first building Zone (even if I previously spawned Zombies in it!).
If, during this extra double Spawn, I draw a new Double Spawn card, I continue on to the next Spawn Zone or building Zone, until I stop drawing Double Spawn cards.
Oh No! I’m Running Out of Zombies!
Hey there! So, you know that Zombicide: Black Plague game box? It’s packed with a crazy amount of zombies, ready to take over a whole village. But here’s the thing: sometimes, you might end up running out of miniatures for a specific type of zombie. What do you do then? Well, let me walk you through it.
First off, if you need to put a zombie on the game board through spawning or filling up a building, and you don’t have any more miniatures of that type left, don’t panic! You just place whatever remaining zombie miniatures you have. Then, all the zombies of that same type already on the board get to do an extra activation. Basically, they get to do an extra turn.
And get this – it can even happen multiple times in a row. Yeah, it’s like the zombies are having a party or something! This is especially important when it comes to those big bad Abominations and Necromancers. You see, in the Zombicide: Black Plague core box, there’s only one miniature for each of them. So, if things line up just right, an Abomination or a Necromancer could end up getting several extra activations in a single game round. Talk about a zombie overload!
Now, if you happen to have extra miniatures of Abominations or Necromancers, you can mix it up and have multiple of them roaming the game board. That’s a whole new level of chaos right there!
Hey there! I wanted to chat about an important topic with you. It’s all about keeping an eye out for those sneaky Zombies on the board. Trust me, you don’t want a surprise Zombie riot!
Let’s Talk Necromancers
Out of all the opponents, Necromancers are the most evil. They just love causing chaos and grabbing power. They’re not interested in fighting Survivors on their own, though. As soon as they’re caught, they try to run away. Check out these special rules that apply to Necromancers:
- For the game, a Necromancer is treated as a Zombie.
- A Necromancer brings his own infected army. When a Necromancer shows up, I place another Zombie Spawn token (with the “Necromancer” side facing up) in his entry Zone. Then, I promptly activate a regular Zombie Spawn for him. From now on, the Necromancer Spawn Zone is active and spawns Zombies just like a regular Spawn Zone would. Every time I draw more Necromancer Zombie cards, regardless of the type, all the Necromancers on the board get an Extra Activation until they run away or die. If there are a total of 6 Zombie Spawn tokens on the board, including the Necromancer Zombie Spawn tokens, and a Necromancer manages to escape, I immediately lose the game.
- If I’m a Necromancer and there are no Survivors in my Zone for me to Attack during my turn, I’ll try to run away from the board.
- When I activate, I’ll move 1 Zone towards the nearest Spawn Zone, not the zone I entered from. I won’t pay attention to any Survivors I might see along the way.
- If there are multiple escape Spawn Zones at the same distance, I’ll just choose one of them.
When I’m playing the game, a Necromancer can get out of the board just by activating on his escape Spawn Zone. You gotta switch the NECROMANCER SPAWN TOKEN with a regular ZOMBIE SPAWN TOKEN.
When it comes to fighting against the invasion, I’ve learned that killing a Necromancer is a crucial step. You see, these powerful beings are the ones responsible for summoning hordes of undead creatures to wreak havoc on our world. So, if you want to put a stop to their evil plans, taking out the Necromancer is the way to go.
But let me tell you, it’s no easy task. Necromancers are tough opponents, equipped with dark magic and surrounded by an army of undead minions. They can be found lurking in specific Spawn Zones, spreading their influence and bringing death wherever they go.
However, if you’re skilled and lucky enough to defeat a Necromancer, you have the power to make a significant impact on the invasion. Once the Necromancer is gone, you can choose a Spawn Zone to remove from the board. This includes the Necromancer’s own Spawn Zone, ensuring that their influence is completely eradicated.
But there’s a catch. Even after you’ve eliminated the Necromancer, there may still be a Necromancer Spawn token lingering on the board. This token represents the remnants of the Necromancer’s dark magic and must be dealt with. To ensure that their power is truly extinguished, you must replace the Necromancer Spawn token with a standard one.
By taking out a Necromancer and removing their Spawn Zone, you are striking a significant blow against the invasion. It’s a difficult task, but the rewards are worth it. Remember, it’s up to us to rise up against the darkness and defend our world from the Necromancer’s forces.
There are times when something out of the ordinary happens in the game. In these special situations, all Spawn Zone tokens may end up in the same Zone. When this happens, a Necromancer will still be present, but he won’t stay for long. Once the Necromancer activates, he will flee from the Zone.
