Zombicide: Black Plague Players Phase
Welcome to Zombicide: Black Plague Players Phase! Are you ready to embark on an exciting adventure full of zombies and challenges? Well, get ready because we’re about to dive right in!
In this phase, it’s all about you. You are in control of your survivor, and it’s your job to make strategic decisions and take action. But be careful, the undead are lurking around every corner, ready to feast on your brains!
First things first, you need to decide what your survivor is going to do. Will you search for weapons and items to help you survive? Or maybe you want to attack some zombies head-on? The choice is yours, but think carefully and consider your options.
Once you’ve decided on your course of action, it’s time to roll the dice. This will determine the outcome of your actions. It’s a thrilling moment, as you wait to see if luck is on your side. Will you succeed in slaying the zombies, or will they overpower you?
As you navigate through the game, you’ll encounter different types of zombies, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. It’s essential to familiarize yourself with these creatures to come up with the best strategy.
Remember, teamwork is crucial. Communicate with your fellow survivors and coordinate your actions to increase your chances of survival. Together, you can overcome any obstacle that stands in your way.
But be warned, the zombies won’t go down without a fight. They will continue to multiply and become even more ferocious as the game progresses. Stay on your toes and be prepared for anything that comes your way.
So, are you ready to face the zombie apocalypse head-on? Grab your weapons, gather your courage, and let’s get started. Your fate, and the fate of humanity, rests in your hands. Good luck!
Let’s talk about how we take turns in the game. Each player will activate their Survivors one at a time, starting with the one who holds the first player token. You can choose the order in which you activate your Survivors. Each Survivor can perform three Actions at the Blue Danger Level, and this doesn’t include any bonus Actions you may have from your Blue Level Skill.
Move
One of the Actions you can take is to Move. This allows your Survivor to go from one Zone to another. However, you cannot move through external building walls or closed doors. If there are Zombies in the Zone you’re trying to leave, you’ll need to spend an extra Action for each Zombie to get out.
If you enter a Zone with Zombies, your Move Action ends, even if you have a Skill that lets you move through multiple Zones in one Move Action (or the Slippery Skill).
EXAMPLE: I’m in a tricky situation with two Walkers surrounding me. To get out of this sticky situation, I spend one Move Action, then two more Actions (one per Walker), for a total of three Actions. If there had been three Zombies in the same area, I would have needed four Actions to make my escape.
Looking for Stuff
When you want to find some useful items, you can only do so in safe building areas where there are no pesky Zombies around. You get to draw a card from the Equipment deck. You can either add it to your inventory or decide to get rid of it right away. Keep in mind that you can only do one Search Action per turn, even if it’s an extra action that doesn’t cost you anything. After searching, feel free to rearrange your inventory to your liking.
Just remember, if you want to make room for new stuff, you can always get rid of things from your inventory at any time, and it won’t cost you a thing.
When the Equipment deck is all used up, we gather all the Equipment cards that have been discarded (this doesn’t include the special Vault cards like Inferno and Orcish Crossbow, but it does include the starting Equipment cards) and shuffle them together to create a new deck.
Opening a Door
If a Melee weapon has the “Open a door” symbol, it can be used to open a door that is right next to me. To do this, I spend one Action and roll as many dice as the weapon says to. If any of the dice show a number that is equal to or greater than the Accuracy number of the weapon, then the door is opened. I also put a Noise token in that Zone.
Note: Opening a door is not like hitting something with a weapon. You don’t get any special skills or bonuses for it. You just use the weapon’s regular dice value.
Some weapons are designed specifically for opening doors. These weapons have a symbol that looks like a door, without any dice symbols. When you use one of these weapons, you don’t have to roll any dice. You just spend an Action to open the door. However, if the weapon is noisy, it will make a noise and alert any nearby enemies.
Did you know that some Quests have colored doors? These doors are special because you can’t open them right away. You have to do something first, like finding an Objective that matches the color of the door. It’s like a puzzle! If you’re confused about what to do, just read the Quest description for more information.
Spawning In Buildings
When you first open a closed building, you’ll find Zombies lurking in every room. (A building can span multiple tiles and includes all rooms connected by openings.) To determine the number and type of Zombies in each area of the building, follow these steps:
- Select any order you prefer and identify each Zone within the building.
- For each Zone, draw a Zombie card.
- Place the corresponding number and type of Zombies in the designated Zone.
Keep in mind the following gameplay details:
- If you draw an Extra Activation card, you must immediately perform the action described on the card.
- If you draw a Double Spawn card, no Zombies are spawned in the current Zone. Instead, double the number of Zombies and place them in the next Zone.
- Some game effects allow you to lock an open door. In such cases, reopening the door will not trigger a new Zombie Spawn.
When the Zombie deck runs out, I shuffle all the discarded cards to create a fresh deck.
I want to let you know that buildings that are open from the beginning of the game are never spawned in.
Now let’s talk about reorganizing and trading. If you spend one Action, you can rearrange the cards in your inventory however you like. You can also trade cards with another Survivor in the same Zone. This trade doesn’t have to be fair – you can give away everything for nothing if both of you agree!
Get Ready for Battle
When it’s time to face an opponent head-on, I have a variety of combat actions at my disposal. These actions involve using different types of weapons, such as melee, ranged, or even magic.
Charge into the Fray
When I’m in my Zone, I unleash my inner Survivor by using a Melee weapon that I hold in my Hand to fend off those pesky Zombies.
The Power of Range
When I’m playing Zombicide: Black Plague, I use a Ranged weapon to shoot at Zones. It’s important to remember that I’m not shooting at individual zombies, but rather targeting specific areas. This is especially crucial when determining which targets to prioritize.
Even if I’m at Range 0, using a Ranged weapon is still considered a Ranged Action.
Now, let’s talk about Magic Actions.
When I, as a Survivor, want to attack Zombies, I can use a Combat spell that I have in my Hand. This spell has specific characteristics that make it suitable for combat. The attack that I launch with this spell follows the same rules as Ranged Actions.
Enchantment Action
Now, let’s say I have an Enchantment spell in my Hand. Unlike the Combat spell, this one doesn’t have combat characteristics. Instead, it has other game effects described on the card. I can use this Enchantment spell to activate those effects and resolve them in the game.
- When I cast Enchantments, I can target Actors or Zones as long as they are within my Line of Sight.
- If I cast an Enchantment on a Survivor, I can even target myself.
- Most Enchantments can only be used once per Turn. However, if I have multiple copies of the same Enchantment, I can cast each copy independently. And if other Survivors pass the Enchantment to me, I can cast it again in the same Game Round.
Take or Activate an Objective
I can either take an Objective or activate one that is already in the same Zone as me. The effects of these actions are explained in the Quest’s description.
Make Some Noise
If I want to attract Zombies, I can make Noise by placing a Noise token in my Zone.
