When we start a game, each of us takes a card from our own deck and adds it to our hand. Next, we place our cards face down in front of us and draw three common cards. From these three cards, we choose one to add to our face-down pile.

Once we’ve all chosen a card, we pass the remaining two cards to the person next to us. We repeat the process of selecting one card to add to our face-down pile and discarding the last one.

After that, we reveal our face-down pile and those cards become our new hand. It’s important to note that we can always check the cards in our face-down pile whenever we want.

The Next Level

Alright, let’s get this game started! We’ll begin by drawing the top 5 cards from the Common deck and placing them face-up in the middle of the playing area. Now it’s time for each player to select their cards. We’ll start with the first player and go around clockwise.

  • If we’re playing with just 2 players, here’s how it works: Starting with the first player, we’ll take turns picking a card from the revealed set. Each player will choose 1 card until everyone has 2 Common cards. Oh, and by the way, the last card that’s left over will be discarded.
  • If we have 3 or 4 players, here’s what we do: The first player will pick a card from the 5 face-up cards. After that, each player in clockwise order will choose a card from the remaining 4 cards. We’ll keep going until everyone has made their selections.

Hey there! Let me explain how the Lookout Phase works in a card game. It’s a crucial part, so pay attention!

  • First, all players draw one card. It’s important to note that the third and fourth players immediately draw and reveal a new card, so they always have four cards to choose from.
  • After that, it’s time for the first player to choose a second card from the remaining three cards.
  • Then, the other players take turns in a clockwise order, picking one card each from the three available cards. If needed, we reveal a new card, so that everyone except the last player always has three cards to choose from.
  • Finally, it’s the last player’s turn to choose a card from the last two remaining cards.
  • Oh, and don’t worry about the last card. It’s simply discarded without any further effect.

Now, let me give you an example of how the Lookout Phase works in a 3-player game:

In a game with 3 players, the first player picks their initial card from a set of 5 cards. Then, the second player picks from a set of 4 cards. Adding to the deck, the third player also chooses from 4 cards.

Next, the first player selects their second card from the remaining 3 cards, just like the second player. After adding a card from the deck, the third player (the last one) chooses from the last 2 cards and discards the remaining card.

But if you prefer a game without negative interactions, there’s a Peaceful variant available. You’ll still follow the standard rules, but with a few changes:

– In the Lookout phase’s first step, each player not only draws 1 Faction card but also 1 Common card before moving on to the drafting part.

– Throughout the game, you cannot Raze enemy Locations. Instead, you can only discard cards from your hand.

Only when a card ability allows players to raze enemy locations is razing allowed.
