This version of the game is designed for three or four players, and I highly recommend playing it this way. There’s an exciting new phase added after the counting phase, called the King’s Favor. To start, each player must have three additional ‘2’ brokers, which are placed next to the board at the beginning of the game.
Now, let me explain how the King’s Favor works. Right after we finish counting, each player will get their three brokers placed in front of their screen back. It’s important to note that one of these brokers needs to be placed face down in the throne room (number 12).
This broker that you place in the throne room is meant to flatter the King, but here’s the catch – you won’t be able to use this broker until the very end of the game. The other two brokers you have remaining should be put back behind your screen.
Finally, grab one of your ‘2’ brokers that’s standing next to the board and put it behind your screen as well.
And that’s how the King’s Favor works in this version of the game. Now, let’s move on and talk about the character cards.
When you step into the throne room, you quickly realize that it’s not like any other place in the kingdom. It’s a magical space where anything can happen.
I like to compare the throne room to a stage, and the characters inside it are the actors. But unlike a play, where the actors have control over their lines and actions, the characters in the throne room have no power.
You see, the herald, who is like the director of the play, doesn’t have the ability to remove or bring in a broker. The same goes for any other character in the throne room. They’re all bound by the rules of the game.
However, just like in every rule, there are exceptions. And in the throne room, there are two exceptions to this “no power” rule.
The first exception is the broker. This character has the ability to remove or bring in a herald. It’s like they have a secret power that enables them to control the director of the play. They can manipulate the game in ways that no other character can.
The second exception is the wizard. This character has the power to regenerate a character’s response. It’s like they can rewrite the lines and change the outcome of a scene. They have the ability to make things happen in the throne room.
So, while characters in the throne room may seem powerless, there are these two exceptions that add an element of surprise and mystery to the game. It’s like a hidden magic that keeps everyone on their toes.
- Spy : When I play the spy, I get to peek at the brokers that are hidden in the throne room. I still have a limit of three brokers as the spy.
- Magician : As the magician, I can swap one of the brokers from the throne room with another broker.

At the end of the game, after counting up the black gems, we reveal the value of the brokers that are hidden in the throne room. You add up your brokers and earn victory points based on your total. The player with the highest total gets twelve points and takes first place.

So, here’s how it works: each of us puts our pawns on the board. But what happens if we end up with a tie? Well, we split the points. Let’s say two of us tie for first place. We would each get 9 points. That’s because we divide the points for first and second place by 2, and round down if needed. The player in third place gets 3 points.
Now, the real goal is to score the most points overall. This is determined by adding up the black and colored gems, as well as the King’s favor. Whoever has the highest total is the winner. But, in case of another tie, it all comes down to whoever collected the most gems. Yes, that’s right, the player with the biggest hoard of gems takes the victory.

If you’re looking for a faster game, this version is perfect for three or four players.
First, we need to make some changes to the game setup. Take out one ‘3’ broker and one T broker from the pool. This will leave each player with nine brokers. Additionally, we’ll remove the ‘Ship’ cards with white gems.
During the broker placing phase, there will be only three turns instead of the usual four. The rest of the game remains the same.
