Welcome to the Variant Rules of Scarabya

Hey there! I’m here to take you on an exciting journey through the variant rules of Scarabya. You ready? Let’s do this!

Creating Scarabya Boards

In the original game, you’re provided with a set of square boards. But guess what? The variant rules allow you to be the architect of your own Scarabya world! You can use the thirteen tiles in any way you want, arranging them to create unique and challenging boards. How cool is that?

Choosing the Scarabs

Now let’s talk about the scarabs. In the standard game, the scarabs are predetermined and assigned to the players. But in this variant, it’s up to you to choose which scarabs you want to play with. You have the power to mix and match the scarabs according to your liking. This adds a whole new level of strategy and excitement to the game!

Number of Scarabs and Score

Oh, I almost forgot to mention! In the standard game, each player gets four scarabs. But in the variant rules, you can change the number of scarabs allocated to each player. How awesome is that? You have the flexibility to adjust the game to your preferences and playstyle.

And here’s another thing you’ll love – the scoring. In Scarabya, you normally score points by surrounding areas with your scarabs. But in the variant rules, you have the freedom to alter the scoring system. You can assign different point values to each type of area or create new scoring conditions altogether. Let your imagination run wild!

Time Limits and Turn Order

Are you a fan of time limits? Well, then you’ll love this variant! You can set a time limit for each player’s turn, adding an exciting element of speed to the game. Put your thinking cap on and make your moves swiftly!

And guess what? You can even modify the turn order. In the standard game, players take turns in clockwise order, but in the variant rules, you can mix it up! You can go clockwise, counterclockwise, or even take turns randomly. Let’s keep everyone on their toes!

Combining Variant Rules

Now, here’s where things get really interesting. You have the power to combine multiple variant rules to create a truly unique and customized gaming experience. Mix and match the rules as you please to keep things fresh and exciting. The possibilities are endless!

It’s Your Scarabya Adventure!

With these variant rules in mind, you’re ready to embark on your own Scarabya adventure. Explore the possibilities, unleash your creativity, and customize the game according to your preferences. Get ready to have a blast!

So, there’s this really cool game where two archaeologists are in a friendly competition to see who can find the most Scarabs in a shared Archaeological Site. It’s a bit like a treasure hunt, but with ancient artifacts!

The Game Setup

  • To start, gather one set of game components: 1 Frame, 4 Boards, 12 Tiles, and 8 Rocks. Place the 4 Boards inside the Frame to construct an Archaeological Site. Any open rock spaces should be filled with Rocks.
  • Next, position the site and the Tiles in the middle of the table.
  • Shuffle the Mission Cards and place them facedown in a pile. Make sure the pile of Scarab Tokens is within reach for both players.

Playing the Game

Take turns with me, and let’s reveal a new Mission Card together. Then, we’ll follow the Layout Rules and add the corresponding Tile to our Archaeological Site.

Let’s keep an eye out for those special Scarab Symbols. If we create an excavation area that contains them, we get to score Scarab Tokens! But here’s the twist: in this version, we’ll keep those tokens for ourselves in a separate pile.

To make sure we don’t forget which areas we’ve excavated, we need to place an unused Scarab Token onto one of its squares. It doesn’t matter what the token’s value is – it’s just a little reminder for us.

Now, here’s the rule that we must follow in this variation: if there’s a way we can place a Tile on our Archaeological Site, we have to do it! Even if we can’t place a Tile right away, we’ll discard it and flip over the next card. We’ll keep doing this until we find a Tile we can play.

Game Over

The game comes to an end when all the Mission Cards have been turned over. So, let’s say I was the second player and I didn’t place as many Tiles as the first player. In that case, I get a little bonus. I get one Scarab Token for each Scarab Symbol that I didn’t put in an excavation area. These Scarab Tokens are worth 1 point each. Once we’ve calculated all our tokens, we can see who has the most points.

The player with the highest total wins the game. But wait, there’s more! If we want, we can have a rematch on the same Archaeological Site. If we do, we’ll just switch the order of play, making the second player go first this time. The Mission Cards, though, will stay in the same order.
