Masterpiece Variant Rules
Welcome to the exciting world of Masterpiece! In this article, I will explain some of the variant rules that can add a new level of depth and strategy to your game.
1. Auctioneer Variant
The Auctioneer Variant introduces a new role to the game, the auctioneer. The auctioneer is responsible for conducting the auctions and setting the starting bids for each painting. This variant adds an extra layer of player interaction as you negotiate and strategize to get the best possible price for the paintings.
2. Art Dealer Variant
The Art Dealer Variant gives players the opportunity to buy and sell paintings outside of the auctions. Each round, players can visit the art dealer to buy paintings or sell paintings from their collection. This variant adds an economic element to the game, allowing players to make strategic decisions based on the market value of the paintings.
3. Master Artwork Variant
The Master Artwork Variant introduces a set of special master artwork cards. These cards have unique abilities that can give players an advantage or disrupt their opponents’ strategies. The master artwork cards can be acquired through auctions or by completing certain objectives. This variant adds a new level of excitement and unpredictability to the game.
4. Hidden Bid Variant
The Hidden Bid Variant adds an element of secrecy to the auctions. In this variant, players secretly bid on a painting by placing their bid token face-down. Once all bids are placed, the bids are revealed simultaneously. This variant adds a level of tension and uncertainty as players try to outguess their opponents and secure the paintings they desire.
5. Museum Variant
The Museum Variant allows players to display their paintings in a personal museum. Each player has their own museum board where they can arrange and showcase their purchased paintings. This variant adds a visual element to the game and allows players to create their own unique art collections.
These variant rules offer exciting new ways to experience Masterpiece. Whether you enjoy the thrill of auctions, the strategy of economic decisions, or the unpredictability of special abilities, there is a variant that will enhance your gaming experience. So gather your friends, choose your favorite variant, and let the art auction begin!
Imagine this: you’re playing a game. You have a bunch of counters valued from 1 to 5, plenty of each. They’re all in a cozy cloth bag, just waiting to be used. Oh, and here’s the fun part: every time you roll a double, you can make one of your paintings even more valuable. Pretty neat, huh?
So, here’s the deal. Before you grab a counter, you need to decide which painting you want to revalue. Choose wisely, my friend. Now, reach into that bag and pick a counter. But shhh, be quiet! You don’t want the other players to see what you’re pulling out.
When you finally have that counter in your hand, it’s time to work some magic. The value of your painting will increase by the number on the counter, multiplied by 100k. So, let’s say you draw a 5. Bam! Your precious masterpiece just became 500k more valuable. That’s some serious moolah, right? Oh, and here’s the best part: you can do this revaluation thing to the same painting more than once. Talk about giving your creation a boost!
But, and this is an important “but,” my friend. Don’t go getting all sneaky on us. Sure, you can try and bluff your opponents by revaluing a forgery, but let me tell you a little secret: a forgery is always gonna stay a forgery. So, as tempting as it might be to try and pull a fast one, remember, you can’t turn fakes into masterpieces. It’s just not gonna work, buddy.
So here’s a situation for you: I have this game, right? And there’s this one strategy that really gets me thinking. Should I sell the painting to make some extra cash? Or should I keep it to score bonus points at the end of the game? The catch is, if I hold onto it, there’s a risk that someone might outbid me in a private auction and I’ll lose it for good.
Set Collection Variant
Now, here’s where things get really interesting. You can earn a special bonus at the end of the game if you have the most unsold paintings in each of the three different colors. But here’s the thing: you need to make sure you still have those paintings in your hand when the final tally comes around.
So, here’s what you do. Get some colored circle stickers and put them on each of the paintings. There are three different colors to choose from: red, blue, and yellow. Each color corresponds to a different number of paintings. There are 6 paintings with red dot stickers, 8 with blue dot stickers, and 10 with yellow dot stickers.
When the game ends, there are three potential bonuses: $250k, $500k, and $750k. These bonuses are awarded based on the difficulty of keeping paintings with 10 stickers, as they are harder to obtain than paintings with only 6 stickers. To qualify for the bonus, you must have the painting in your possession at the end of the game. In case of a tie, no one receives the bonus!
This adds another layer of value to the art in the game, beyond the randomness of the value card. Even a forged painting may still have some worth. This adds unpredictability to auctions, as you could lose a symbol you wanted but gain more money than usual for the art, especially if everyone is competing for the same symbol.
Inherit Painting Variant
The “inherit painting from bank” space is replaced with “swap painting with the bank” space. When you land on this space, you must discard one of your paintings (without receiving any money) and replace it with a new painting from the bank.
Making a decision can be tough when the painting you have is not worth much, but it holds sentimental value for your collection.
The Betting Twist
In this version, all the spaces that used to give you free money are replaced by an exciting betting game. Here’s how it works: you bet a certain amount of money and then roll two dice. If the total is between 2 and 5, you lose your bet. If it’s between 6 and 9, you keep your bet. And if you roll a double or get a total of 10 to 12, you not only double your bet, but any doubles automatically triple the bet!
So, instead of just getting $500k from a space, you now have the option to bet $500k (if you have it). Depending on your luck, you could lose it, keep it, double it, or even triple it!
Of course, to play this game, you must have the money to gamble. It adds an element of luck, but it’s also a choice that you get to make. It can be quite tempting to gamble if you feel like you’re losing, but it might not be such a good idea if you think you’re winning.
