The Amazing Fire in the Library Variant Experience

Welcome to the thrilling world of Fire in the Library! This popular game has some amazing variant rules that can take your gaming experience to a whole new level. I am here to guide you through these incredible options, so get ready for an adventure!

First of all, let’s talk about the importance of variant rules. They are like secret doors that lead to unexpected and exciting possibilities. With these rules, you have the power to customize your game and create unique challenges that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Are you ready to dive into the world of variant rules? Let me introduce you to a few of them:

The Risky Rescuer

In this variant, I introduce a brave and daring role for you – the Risky Rescuer. As a Risky Rescuer, you have the ability to save more books in each turn, but there’s a catch – you also increase the chance of a catastrophic fire! Can you handle the pressure and choose the right moment to push your luck?

The Treacherous Team

In this variant, you can team up with your friends and become the ultimate firefighting squad. Each player takes on a specialized role with unique skills. Together, you have a better chance of putting out fires, but be careful – your collaboration might also ignite new flames! Can you work together to save the day?

The Time Challenge

In this variant, time is not your friend. You have a limited amount of time to save as many books as possible. The tension rises with every second, and you have to make quick decisions. Do you have what it takes to beat the clock and emerge as the ultimate hero?

These are just a few examples of the amazing variant rules available for Fire in the Library. Each one adds a unique twist to the game, allowing you to tailor your experience to your preferences and playstyle. So go ahead, explore these variant options, and discover a whole new world of excitement and challenge!

When you play the Solo Robot Variant, things get more interesting because there’s competition and randomness added to the burning of the Library. This means that the end of the game isn’t completely in your control, just like in the multiplayer game. On the other hand, if you choose the Lone Librarian Variant, there’s no Robot involved. It’s all up to you to save as many books as you can within the given number of turns.

For either Solo Variant, you need to follow the Setup just like you would in a normal game. In the first round, you can choose any of the Turn Order Cards. Once you’ve used a Turn Order Card, you have to set it aside and can only select from the remaining cards. After using all the Turn Order Cards, you’ll once again have the choice to select any of them, and you’ll continue setting them aside as they are used.

Tool differences for both solo Variants:

The Amulet will place a token on each of the remaining Turn Order Cards.

Solo Robot Variant

The Solo Robot Variant brings in a new player to the game – an automated Robot Player. Unlike regular players, the Robot Player doesn’t make choices or take turns in the traditional sense. Instead, it uses a Librarian Figure to keep track of its score. Here’s how the Robot Player’s turn works:

– After a regular player takes their turn following the multiplayer rules, it’s the Robot Player’s turn.

– If the regular player caused any books to burn during their turn, the Robot Player scores points equal to the highest valued book.

– If no books were burned, the Robot Player flips over the top card of the Tool Deck. It then burns and discards one Library Card from each Library Section represented by banners in the Robot Burns section.

– If any Library Cards revealed have the Fire Icon, Fire Tokens are added.

Hey there, let me break it down for you: When it comes to scoring in the game, the Robot Player earns points based on the value of the Library Sections shown on the card. Take a look at the “Robot Scoring” section and see the icons next to the Tool Name. The Robot Player scores points equal to the current value of the Sections displayed there. Each book scored by the Robot Player earns them 2 Bravery Points, except for the first book.

Let me give you an example: If you look at the Tool on the right, you’ll see that its banners are White and Black. So, the Sections that will be considered are the ones that are White and Black. The Robot Player will then score points based on the Yellow and Purple book values, with an extra 2 points added for Bravery.

Remember, during Step 3, make sure not to burn the Library!

However, if the Robot Player manages to completely burn down the last card of any Library Section, they won’t score any points for that round. And here’s something important – once the last Library Card for any one Section of the Library is removed, the game ends immediately.

Now, the ultimate goal is to have more points than the Robot Player by the end of the game. If you achieve that, congratulations, you’ve won!

The Different Tools for the Solo Robot Variant:

When I play the game with the Slingshot tool and it helps my Robot get a Book Token, I earn points for that book. However, if my Robot makes the game end, I don’t get any points. If a tool helps my Robot get a Fire Token, I ignore it.

The Lone Librarian Variant

“As a librarian, I never feel alone. I always have books to turn to.”

In the Lone Librarian Variant, I don’t need a Robot Player. Instead, I’m racing against time to save as many books as possible!

  • I play the game for 12 rounds, using all the Turn Order Cards as markers for each round.
  • After using each Turn Order Card, a section of the Library burns down, unless I triggered the Fire Spreading action.
  • The game ends once I have gone through the Turn Order Cards twice, unless the Library has burned down completely.

Playing Librarian

Welcome to the enchanting world of Librarian, a game that will test your skills and luck as you strive to organize and protect the ancient tome.

Objective

Your goal is to score as many points as possible by safeguarding the Library and its precious sections.

On your turn, you’ll draw cards and place them in one of the available sections. But be careful! The Library is a delicate place, and if it becomes too cluttered, disaster may strike!

Playing the Game

At the start of each turn, draw a card from the deck and choose where to place it in the Library. You can either create a new section or add to an existing one.

Keep in mind that you can only have a maximum of five sections in the Library. So think strategically and plan ahead!

If you draw a turn order card, you can use it to take an extra turn or pass it to your opponent.

The game ends when either the Library burns down or a player completes 12 turns.

End of Game Scoring:

Once the game is over, it’s time to tally up your points.

  • If the Library Burned Down: Lose 10 points for each unused Turn Order Card.
  • If the Player Played 12 Turns: Gain 2 points for every remaining Section of the Library.

If you have more than 125 points, you have won. If you have more than 160 points, congratulations! You are the bravest librarian and have won with honors!

Multiplayer With Robot Player Variant

“Would you like a cup of tea?” As the very nearsighted Iyashni the Fifty Seventh said to a nearby ladder robot.

This variant is recommended for two players, but can be enjoyed with any group smaller than six.

If you’re looking to add more excitement to your game, I have just the thing for you! Introducing the Robot Player – a new, automated player that brings a whole new dynamic to your gaming experience.

Unlike regular players, the Robot Player doesn’t make choices or take turns in the traditional sense. Instead, it uses a special Librarian Figure to keep track of its score and a Turn Order Card to determine when it acts.

Here’s how it works:

  • When setting up the game, include an additional Turn Order Card for the Robot Player. This means you’ll have one card for each regular player, plus one for the Robot Player.
  • During the game, when it’s time to select a Turn Order Card, the Robot Player chooses the earliest available card.
  • On the Robot Player’s turn, flip over the top card from the Tool Deck. Pay attention to the Robot Burning Section, indicated by banners in the upper right corner. These banners tell you which sections of the Library have been affected by the fire.

The Robot Scoring Section shows which parts of the Library the Robot Player gets points for. I can also get extra points for being brave and saving books.

  • I get points for the Sections listed next to the Tool Name. I can also get points based on my Turn Order Card and the number of books I save.

For example, let’s look at the Tool on the right. It has White and Yellow banners, so I get points for the White and Yellow Sections. I also score points for the Black and Purple books, and I earn extra points for being brave.

If you’re the Robot Player and you have the 1st Turn Order Card, you’ll get two points for bravery. But if you have the 3rd Turn Order Card, you won’t get any bravery points because the books you saved would be in safe spaces.

Remember, don’t burn the Library during Step 3.

Otherwise, the game continues as usual. If you completely burn down a section of the Library, you won’t score any points for that round.

If the Slingshot helps you get a Book Token, you’ll get points for that book unless it causes the game to end. Just ignore it if a tool helps you get a Fire Token.

No Tool Variant

For some young gamers who are too busy saving books to deal with reading and tool cards, this variant is for them!

Instead of handing out Tool Cards and receiving them for escaping the Library or burning them, all you need to do is use your smarts to save books and earn bravery!

Whenever any player triggers Fire Spreading, you even earn an extra point if you shout out “Burn!”

Are you ready for a more intense experience? Then try the Wild Fire Variant! The fire in the Library is raging out of control! There’s no time to grab a tool when you escape early, and two sections of the Library burn at the end of every round. It’s a thrilling way to test your luck and make the game faster.

But if you’re really up for a challenge, go for the Inferno Variant! The fire in the Library is even more out of control! In addition to the changes from the Wild Fire Variant, Turn Order Cards are dealt randomly. It’s the most extreme version of Fire in the Library, perfect for those seeking the ultimate adrenaline rush!
