AuZtralia Variant Rules

Let me tell you about something cool – the AuZtralia board game! It’s a unique game that combines strategy and adventure. I’m here to explain some variant rules that you can use to make the game even more exciting.

The Solo Variant

Are you up for a challenge? If you’re playing solo, you can take on the role of both the humans and the Old Ones. It’s like playing two games in one! As the only player, you’ll have to strategically manage both sides. Will you be able to outsmart yourself? Give it a try and find out!

The Competitive Variant

If you’re looking for some friendly competition, you can play AuZtralia with multiple players. The goal is to score the most points by the end of the game. You’ll need to plan your moves wisely and keep an eye on your opponents. It’s all about strategy and timing. Can you outwit your friends and come out on top?

The Cooperative Variant

In the cooperative variant, all players work together as a team to defeat the Old Ones. Communication and collaboration are key here. Each player has a unique role and set of abilities, so you’ll need to coordinate your actions to be successful. Can you and your friends save the world from the dark forces? Only time will tell!

The Team Variant

For an added twist, you can play in teams. Divide into two groups and compete against each other. One team takes on the role of the humans, while the other becomes the Old Ones. It’s a battle of wits and strategy. Will the humans prevail, or will the Old Ones conquer the land? The outcome is in your hands!

The Strategic Variant

If you’re looking to elevate the intensity, you can introduce the strategic variant. This variant adds more depth to the gameplay by adding new cards and abilities. It’s a double-edged sword though – it can give you an advantage, but it can also make the game more challenging. Are you ready to take on the extra challenge and see what fate has in store for you?

AuZtralia is a game full of possibilities. With these variant rules, you can customize your gameplay experience and explore different strategies. Whether you’re playing solo, competing against friends, working together as a team, or adding more depth with strategic elements, there’s something for everyone. So gather your allies or go it alone – the world of AuZtralia is waiting for you!

Hey there! Let me tell you about something really interesting. So, in this game I like to play called solo mode, there’s this hex number 14 that is a bit different from the others. You see, usually, when we start the game, we place a Survey tile on every hex, but for hex number 14, it’s a special case. We don’t place a Survey tile there unless we’re told to. It’s like a secret spot on the board!

My Goals

I’ll pick or randomly choose one of the Solo Objective cards.

If I accomplish the objective, I will earn the specified Victory Points when the game is over.

Choose Your Variant

When it comes to playing this game with a friend, there are a couple of different ways you can shake things up to keep it exciting. You have the option to draw one card randomly and select one of the two variants, or you can choose to draw two cards and pick two of the four variants. It’s all up to you!

Head West!

If you’re ready to explore the Wild West, you can bring a new twist to the game by using the Western map and flipping the Player boards to the ‘Western Barracks’ side. This change of scenery will transport you to a whole new world, with its own set of challenges and opportunities. So saddle up and get ready for an adventure like no other!

Survey Stage

  • Don’t put Coal or Phosphates.
  • You can put Resources in the green Farmland hexes.
  • At the beginning, put 3 VP and 5VP tokens in the specified hexes.

Rule Changes

  • Player ports can be next to each other.
  • You can put any farm in a green Farmland hex. You can’t farm in the yellow Desert.
  • The 3 and 5 VP tokens are mined like any other resource.

Complete Cooperation

Apply these rule changes to turn the game into a fully cooperative experience:

  1. Start all player discs FOUR time spaces closer to the Old Ones disc.
  2. When connected, you can use each other’s Railways. Just pay one extra time point for each of your opponents’ Railways you use. But remember, your own color tracks must connect back to your port.
  3. With import-export, you can give imported resources or Gold that you received from exporting to another player. They are then free to use them on their turn.
  4. When you choose a personality card, you get to decide who receives it.

Scoring: To win, all human players must achieve a higher score than the Old Ones.

3-4 Player Challenges

If you find it too easy to beat the Old Ones after a few games, you can increase the difficulty level.

Medium: Spawning Temples

When you’re setting up the game, make sure to find and set aside the eight Old One tiles that have an ‘X’ or ‘XX’ marked on them. Don’t forget to shuffle the two ‘XX’ Temple tiles into the stack of level 2 Old One tiles. These special tiles will play an important role during the game.

Keep the other six ‘X’ tiles aside for now. You won’t need to place them during the initial Survey phase.

When a Spawning (XX) Temple is revealed, things get interesting. First, you’ll need to place three ‘X’ tiles of the corresponding type (Mi-Go or Zombie) on the Temple. Then, you’ll move each Old One tile two hexes away from the Temple. The direction of the movement is determined by drawing an Old One card. Look at the number at the top of the card and consult the compass plan at the bottom of the map. For example, if the card has a ‘4’ at the top, you’ll move the Old One two hexes to the south. Since each Old One tile has one card draw, they may end up going in different directions.

It’s important to note that the Temples only spawn once, when they are revealed. So make sure to keep that in mind as you plan your strategies.

    • After that, these Temples behave like any other Temples and can generate Level 3 Old Ones if a Temple Revelation card is drawn.

Hard: In addition to the above, the Old Ones become more resilient.

    • First, make sure that you remove all the ‘Empty’ tiles from the game before you start setting up.
    • If you happen to run out of a tile at a certain level, just place a tile that is one level higher.

Insane: In addition to the above, you also need to sift through the Survey.

First things first, let’s get rid of those pesky Survey tiles with the red clip before we start setting up. Trust me, you’ll have a lot more Old Ones to handle.
