Variations for Playing Among the Stars

I am excited to share with you some interesting ideas and rules to make your games of Among the Stars even more thrilling and enjoyable. Let’s dive into these variant rules and explore new ways to experience this amazing game.

1. Solo Mode

If you ever find yourself wanting to play Among the Stars on your own, don’t worry! You can still have a fantastic time by trying out the solo mode. In this variant, you will take on the role of multiple players and compete against yourself to achieve the highest score possible. It’s a great way to challenge yourself and improve your strategy skills.

2. Team Mode

Are you looking for a game that can be played with a larger group of people? Team mode is the answer! In this variant, players are divided into teams and work together to build the best space station. Communication and coordination are key to success in this mode. Collaborating with your teammates and coming up with the best strategies will lead your team to victory.

3. Drafting Variant

If you enjoy the thrill of drafting cards, you’ll love this variant. In the drafting variant, instead of receiving a hand of cards at the beginning of each round, players take turns choosing a single card from a common pool. This adds an extra layer of strategy and decision-making to the game, as you have to adapt your plans based on the cards that are available.

4. Elimination Mode

For those who crave a more competitive experience, the elimination mode is a perfect choice. In this variant, players are eliminated from the game if they cannot pay their maintenance costs at the end of a round. This creates a sense of urgency and forces players to carefully manage their resources. It’s a high-stakes game of survival where every decision counts!

5. New Objectives

If you’re looking to add more variety to your games, why not try incorporating new objectives? You can create your own set of objectives or use pre-designed ones from the expansion packs. These additional objectives will spice up the gameplay and introduce new challenges for you and your opponents.

Conclusion

When it comes to playing Among the Stars, the possibilities are endless. These variant rules offer you new ways to experience the game and keep the excitement alive. Whether you’re playing alone, working as a team, or competing in elimination mode, the choice is yours. So gather your friends, explore the stars, and let the fun begin!

Hey there! I’ve got a few exciting game variants that you can give a whirl!

The All-in Variant

Instead of the usual setup, we’re going to mix things up a bit. Take all the Location Cards, both the basic ones and the special ones, and shuffle them together. This deck will be our Location Deck from which we’ll draw our cards.

Now, grab the bottom 20 cards from that Deck, but no peeking! Set them aside. These cards will be our unused Special Locations.

This variant makes the setup process much quicker, but it also adds an element of surprise since no one knows how many copies of each Basic Location Card will make an appearance.

The Limited Space Variant

Hey there! Let me tell you about a cool variant you can try when playing Among the Stars. Normally, you have all the space in the world to build your Space Station. You can shift your cards around and move your Station wherever you want, even if it reaches the edge of the table.

But with this variant, things are a little different. You’re limited by the surface you’re playing on. If the side of a location card is too close to the edge of the table, you can’t play a location next to it. It’s like you’re constrained by the boundaries of the real world.

And there’s more! If the locations built by one player get too close to another player’s Station, neither player can expand in that direction. It adds a whole new level of strategic thinking to the game. To really amp up the effect of this variant, you can even choose a smaller playing surface than usual – it’s like shrinking the universe!

Aggressive Mode

Conflict Card

To play in Aggressive Mode, you’ll need a Conflict Set. The basic game comes with the Dispute Conflict Set, but you can also find more sets in expansions. Once you’ve chosen the Conflict Set you want to play with, set aside its 12 cards.

The first round of the game is played the same as in Non-Aggressive Mode. Then, before drawing any cards for the second round, shuffle a number of Conflict Cards into the Location Deck. In a game with 3 players, shuffle 9 Conflict Cards randomly chosen. In a game with 4 players, shuffle all 12 Conflict Cards.

For the next 3 rounds, each player will draw an extra card from the Location Deck, giving each player a total of 7 cards. The turns are carried out the same way as in Non-Aggressive Mode, with one exception: When a player selects a Conflict Card, they cannot “build it” because it is not a Location Card.
