Starting Bonus: Rock.
Character Skill: Every time I place a bird or fish decoration, I get two coins.
Sight Preference: I get two coins for every Animal icon on the active Landscape.
Empress
Welcome Bonus: Water.
Special Skill: When I place a lotus or peony flower decoration, I earn two coins.
Preferred View: I earn nine coins. However, if the Emperor or Lady is visible to me, I lose three coins for each of them.
The Reclusive One
Starting Bonus: Crumbled rocks.
Character Skill: I’ll get a coin every time I move one or more spaces on the rock path. Even if I move two spaces with the same rock tile, I’ll only get one coin.
Sight Preference: I’ll earn two coins (up to a maximum of ten coins) for every garden tile with rocky ground that the Hermit can see.
The Poet
Starting Bonus: As a student, my starting bonus is water. I’ll begin the game with this valuable resource.
Character Skill: Being a student, I have a special skill. Every time I move one or more spaces on the water track, I can gain one coin. Even if I move two spaces with the same tile, I still only get one coin.
Sight Preference: Since I’m a student, I have a preference for gardens with water terrain. When I see a garden tile with water in the Poet’s line of sight, I can gain two coins for each one. The maximum number of coins I can earn this way is ten.
Student
Starting Bonus: Greenery.
Character Skill: Every time I move forward on the greenery track, I’ll earn a coin. Even if I move two spaces with the same tile, I’ll still get only one coin.
Sight Preference: Whenever I see a garden tile with greenery, I’ll earn two coins. I can earn a maximum of ten coins this way.
Emperor
Hey there! Here’s a special treat for you: when I start playing, I get a nice bonus. I receive plants and greenery, which is always a refreshing sight.
And check this out: I’ve got some special skills up my sleeve! Every time I make progress on the greenery track, I’ll earn a shiny coin. That’s right, every step forward comes with its own reward. Emperor

Sight Preference: When you have either the Sun or the Moon icon on the active Landscape, you gain six coins. If you have both the Sun and the Moon icons on the active Landscape, you get twelve coins instead.
The Trader

Character Skill: When I’m placing a decoration, I can pay one coin to get two more decoration cards, or I can pay one coin to get the top card from the discard pile.
In both cases, I can first draw the regular amount of cards and then choose if I want to spend a coin to draw more.
Sight Preference: I earn two coins for every Village icon on the active Landscape.
Monk

I have a special skill that allows me to earn extra coins in the game. Whenever you find yourself having to choose between just two garden tiles or two decoration cards, I’ll help you gain two coins. It’s a handy ability that can give you a little boost.
Speaking of boosts, I also have a preference for sights that have Buddhist temple icons on them. For every Buddhist temple icon you have on the active Landscape, I’ll give you three coins. So if you have multiple temple icons, the reward can really start adding up!
Officer
The Power of the Sword Dancer
Character Skill: When my turn begins, I can trade one coin to turn all hidden garden tiles face up on the garden board.
Alternatively, I can choose to take any visible garden tile and place it at the bottom of its stack, revealing the top tile. This switch is free of charge.
Preferred Vision: For every icon on the active Landscape, no matter what it is, you will earn one coin.
The Sword Dancer: A Master of Deception
