Ready to Set Up Star Wars: Armada?
Hey there! Are you excited to dive into the immersive world of Star Wars: Armada? With this guide, I’ll walk you through the complete setup so you can start playing and strategizing in no time. Trust me, it’s going to be a blast!
Step 1: Gather Your Fleet
First things first, gather all the starships and squadrons you’ll be using in your epic space battles. Make sure you have a good mix of capital ships, like Star Destroyers, and smaller squadrons, such as X-wing fighters. Organize them neatly on your gaming table, eager to launch into action.
Step 2: Set Up the Play Area
Next, it’s time to create the play area where all the strategic maneuvers will take place. Lay out the space mat and ensure there’s enough room for your fleet to maneuver. Place obstacles like asteroids and space debris strategically to add an extra layer of challenge to the game. The universe is now your battleground!
Step 3: Gather Your Command Tools
Your command tools are essential for keeping track of your actions and managing your fleet. Gather your ship cards, command dials, and command tokens. Make sure you have enough for each ship in your fleet. These tools will be your guiding stars throughout the game.
Step 4: Set Up Your Ships
Now it’s time to prepare your starships for battle. Place each ship on its corresponding ship card, ensuring all upgrades and squadron deployment values are correctly represented. Position your capital ships in the front line boldly, ready to strike fear into the heart of your opponent.
Step 5: Ready Your Squadrons
Your squadrons are the backbone of your fleet, so it’s important to get them ready for action. Place your squadron cards next to their corresponding squadrons. Ensure all squadron deployment values align with the ship cards. Deploy your squadrons strategically, as they will add versatility and tactical advantage to your battles.
Step 6: Determine Player Order
Figure out who will be the first player and who will be the second player. You can either decide this randomly or by mutual agreement. The first player will have the advantage of taking the initiative, so choose wisely!
Step 7: Prepare Your Objectives
Objectives add an element of strategy and variety to the game. Each player should select three objective cards to use for the game. Place these cards face-down, keeping them hidden from your opponent. The objectives you choose will determine your goals and influence your tactics throughout the battle.
Step 8: Begin the Battle
Finally, it’s time to unleash the Star Wars Armada universe and engage in an epic battle among the stars! Each player will take turns activating their ships and squadrons, maneuvering across the play area, and unleashing devastating attacks. Use your command tools wisely and adapt your strategies as the battle unfolds. May the Force be with you!
Remember, Star Wars: Armada is all about strategy, tactics, and intense battles. With this complete setup guide, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the art of commanding your fleet in the vastness of space. So grab your Star Destroyers and X-wing fighters, and get ready for an unforgettable gaming experience!
I’ll walk you through the steps to get started with the game once you’re comfortable with the rules. Just follow these easy instructions:
- Create the Play Area & Setup Area: First, make sure you have a clear 3′ x 6′ space for playing. Then, use the range ruler to mark out a 3′ x 4′ setup area, placing the setup area markers 1′ away from the short edges of the play area. Sit across from your opponent on the 6′ sides of the play area. If you’re playing with only the ships and squadrons in the core set, you can use a 3′ x 3′ play area instead.
- Choose Objective: First, I’ll look at all three of your opponent’s objective cards. Then, I get to pick one of them to be the objective for our game.
- Place Obstacles: Now it’s time to set up the play area. We’ll take turns choosing and placing six obstacles. Make sure they are placed within the setup area, which means they should be beyond distance 3 of the edges of the play area and beyond distance 1 of each other. If we’re only using the ships and squadrons included in this box, we’ll only place four obstacles.
- Deploy Ships: Next, we’ll take turns deploying our forces into the setup area. Each turn, you can either place one ship or two squadrons.
Gather Components: First, I want you to get all your ships, squadrons, and cards and put them next to where you’ll play. Make sure your shield dials and squadron disks are set to their highest values. Set the activation slider of each squadron to show the blue end with the “a” icon. Don’t forget to assign the right defense tokens to each ship and unique squadron. And finally, gather enough command dials and speed dials for your fleet. You might also need ID tokens for ships and squadrons. Determine Initiative: Now it’s time to decide who goes first. The player with the lowest total fleet point cost gets to choose. They can place the initiative token next to their edge with the “a” side facing up. But if both players have the same number of fleet points, well, it’s time to flip a coin to decide who gets to make the choice.
When playing the game, here are some important rules to keep in mind:
1. Ships need to be in your designated area. This area is one side of the playing field, within a distance of 1-3 from your edge.
2. When placing a ship, you need to set its speed dial to a speed that is listed on its speed chart.
3. Squadrons should be placed near a friendly ship, within a distance of 1-2.
4. If you only have one squadron left to place but are required to place two, you will need to wait until you have placed all of your ships.
5. Before starting the game, there are a few things to prepare. Shuffle the damage deck and put it next to the playing area. Also, make sure you have the command tokens, maneuver tool, range ruler, and the round token marked as “1”.
6. Finally, remove the setup area markers from the playing area to clean up.
Now that setup is complete, we can begin the first round of the game.
