Hey there! If you enjoy playing The Settlers of Catan, you’ll definitely want to check out the first expansion game called Seafarers. This expansion takes your game to a whole new level with Islands, Pirates, Gold, Ships, and Trade.

Just like in the original game, you become an immigrant on the newly populated Archipelago of Catan. Your goal is to build settlements, roads, and villages by using resources from the land and surrounding islands.

Here’s where it gets interesting: you can turn a sheep and some wood into a ship, or bricks and wood into a road. And if you’re feeling ambitious, you can try other combinations to create advanced buildings and services. The possibilities are endless!

But that’s not all! On top of the barbarian menace, I also have the chance to compete with other players and construct three magnificent metropolises on Catan. These extraordinary centers will earn me two additional victory points each, but they require substantial investment in city improvements.

If you want to make your gameplay even better, there are some exciting improvements available. To get these upgrades, you’ll need to collect three new kinds of Trade Cards: Coinage, Paper, and Cloth. But you can only get these cards by constructing a city next to mountain, forest, or pasture hexes.

To become an Ambassador, you’ll need to leave Terra and the planets we know. You’ll venture into the vast galaxy, exploring new worlds, establishing trade with alien cultures, and overcoming pirates along the way.

May luck shine upon the brave explorers who seek glory and victory!

At the start of the game, each of the 3 or 4 players begins in known solar systems, where the known worlds are located. In these solar systems, you’ll find 3 planets that produce the raw materials needed for deep space travel. To begin, you’ll have 2 Colonies and a Space Port, all made from plastic. The Space Port allows you to build starships that will transport your new colonies and trade posts to far-off lands.

When I play this game, all the colonies and spaceports let me make resources if the dice match the numbers of the planets next to them. I can trade these resources for colony ships, trade ships, and upgrades for my fleet, like freight rings, booster rockets, and cannons. But I have to be careful as I explore because some planets are icy and others have dangerous pirates hiding on them.

There are so many different things in this game! Each player gets a big, 13 cm tall Mother-ship where they can put their starships and fleet upgrades. The Mother-ship has all the traits for your starships, and it also helps you with random encounters and movement points.

You can see two of these balls through a small dome at the bottom of the ship. The balls come in four colors – red, yellow, blue, and black.

Imagine this: I find myself in the game of Starship Catan, where I’m one of two Starfarers from the Catan space fleet. Suddenly, we’re thrown through a crazy wormhole and end up in a whole new galaxy. Lost, confused, and with not much in the way of resources, I start to feel pretty hopeless.

But then, out of the blue, we come across these four friendly alien races. They offer us some help and say they’ll guide us back home, but there’s a catch. We have to prove ourselves worthy by meeting the super high standards set by the Galactic Advisory Council.

That’s when it hits me: I can be a Starfarer and explore all these crazy new parts of space! I’ll have to deal with pesky space pirates, find new planets to settle on, and make important trade deals. And that’s not all – I’ll also have to do some good deeds, like rescues and interventions. But hey, it’s all worth it if it means I can make my Starship better and get back home!
