Survive: Escape from Atlantis Optional Rules

Survive: Escape from Atlantis is an exciting board game that allows players to navigate a sinking island and race to safety. While the game already includes comprehensive rules for an engaging experience, there are optional rules that can enhance gameplay even further. Let me introduce you to a few of these optional rules:

1. Variable Setup

Instead of always starting the game with the same setup of tiles and meeples, you can introduce variability by shuffling them and placing them randomly. This adds an element of surprise and uncertainty to each game, making it both challenging and strategic.

2. Atlantis Rising

As the island sinks, the lost city of Atlantis can rise from its depths. This optional rule introduces Atlantis tiles that can be placed during gameplay. These tiles can either hinder or help the players, changing the dynamics of the game and requiring them to adapt their strategies accordingly.

3. Hidden Roles

In this optional rule, each player is secretly assigned a hidden role at the start of the game. These roles can include being a saboteur, a helper, or having unique abilities. The hidden roles add an element of mystery and bluffing, as players try to figure out who is on their side and who is working against them.

4. Special Event Cards

Special event cards can be added to the game to introduce unexpected events and challenges. These cards can create thrilling moments, such as a sudden storm or the appearance of sea monsters. Players must adapt and make quick decisions to overcome these obstacles and secure their escape.

5. Solo Variant

If you prefer to play the game on your own, there is a solo variant that allows you to enjoy Survive: Escape from Atlantis as a captivating single-player experience. This variant includes specific rules and objectives tailored for solo play, ensuring you can still have fun even when playing alone.

Remember, these optional rules are not meant to replace the core game experience but rather enhance it according to your preferences. They offer new challenges, strategies, and excitement, making each game of Survive: Escape from Atlantis a unique adventure. So, dive in, explore the options, and discover the version of the game that brings you the most enjoyment!

Hey there! Let’s talk about some super cool rules you can add to make your game more exciting. These optional Challenge Rules will bring variety and complexity to the table. Are you ready? Let’s dive in!

Super Cool Rule 1: Packed with People

Optional Rules for Survive Escape from Atlantis UltraFoodMess

When you’re setting up the game, you have the option to place up to two People tokens on any Land tiles, except for the ones next to the sea on the outer edge of the island. Each Land tile adjacent to a sea space on the outer edge of the island can only have one People token.

Rule 2: Nobody Gets Left Behind

The game comes to an end when the last People token is taken off the game board, either by being saved or removed by a creature or whirlpool. If the Volcano tile is revealed, treat it as a Whirlpool tile instead. After that, if there are still any People tokens remaining on the game board, the game continues.

Rule 3: We’re All Equal

The player with the most People tokens on safe islands when the game ends is declared the winner. The number on the bottom of each People token doesn’t matter.

Rule 4: Goodbye, Atlantis

Once I remove the final Land tile from the game board, the game is over. However, if the Volcano tile appears, it’s not game over just yet. Instead, I treat it as a Whirlpool tile and continue the game if there are still Land tiles left on the board. So, I better keep a close eye on that last Land tile and be ready to strategize accordingly!

Dive into Rule 5: Dolphins and Diving Creatures

Optional Rules for Survive Escape from Atlantis UltraFoodMess

Hey there! Let me introduce you to a cool new rule called the Dolphin Dive. It’s all about these four awesome Dolphin tokens and two blue Dive dice. Just note that we won’t be using the red Creature die with this rule.

So, when you uncover a Land tile that has this symbol:

Here’s what happens instead of following the usual rule for that tile:

  • I’m gonna show the tile to everyone playing.
  • A Dolphin token is placed in the sea where the Land tile used to be.
  • We’re gonna take the Land tile out of the game (rather than adding it to our hands).

All the Creatures, including the Dolphins, move by using the Dive dice.

In step 4, we’re gonna roll both the Dive dice instead of the Creature die.

When I play Dive, there are two dice that help me decide what moves I can make. Let’s talk about the first one. This dive die has symbols that show me if I can move a Sea Serpent, Shark, Whale, Dolphin, or an empty Boat. One symbol, the Starfish, is really special because it’s “wild”. That means I can move any Sea Serpent, Shark, Whale, Dolphin, or empty Boat that I want. How cool is that?

Now, let’s move on to the second dice. This one has numbers: 1, 1, 2, 2, and 3. These numbers tell me the most sea spaces I can move whatever Creature or empty Boat I rolled on the first die. Oh, and this die also has a letter D on one side.

If I roll the D, I get to move the Creature or empty Boat to any open sea space on the game board. It’s like they’ve “Dived” or “Drifted” to that spot because of the wind and crazy water around Atlantis. Pretty cool way to mix things up, right?

Hey there! Let me break down the rules for you:

Listen up! You can’t move an occupied Boat using the Dive dice, even if you control the Boat.

Now, here’s a big one! If a Sea Serpent, Shark, or Whale enters a sea space with something it could attack (as I explained earlier), the Creature’s move ends.

But check this out – the Dolphins are the good guys! When a Dolphin moves onto a sea space with a Swimmer (or vice versa), the Swimmer is safe from Sea Serpents and Sharks.

However, a Dolphin can only protect one Swimmer at a time. The first Swimmer to join the Dolphin is the lucky one. If you move a Dolphin into a sea space with multiple Swimmers, you get to choose the protected one. Just put the People token right against the Dolphin token to show who’s saved.

In the vast ocean, there can be multiple Dolphins coexisting in the same space, each diligently safeguarding a different Swimmer. But beware! If one of these Dolphins is displaced by another player, and a treacherous Sea Serpent or Shark happens to occupy the very same space, the Swimmer under the Dolphin’s protection is snatched away and eliminated from the game.

A Dolphin is quite the sociable creature, able to share its watery dwelling with other marvelous denizens, such as fellow Creatures and trusty Boats. During step 2 of the enthralling “Game Play” described above, when you decide to move a cherished Swimmer under the Dolphin’s care, you have the option of moving the Dolphin too (but keep in mind, you can only move it one space per turn, as dictated by the rules for moving Swimmers).

Now here’s an interesting twist: if you roll the Dive dice and happen to land on a Dolphin amidst a swarm of Swimmers, you can cleverly employ the move to switch the Dolphin’s protective duties to a different Swimmer, without actually relocating the Dolphin itself.
