Ready to Start Your Farming Adventure?
I hope this introduction has piqued your interest in the fascinating world of La Granja. If you’re looking for a game that combines strategy, creativity, and immersive gameplay, then La Granja is the perfect choice for you. Get ready to cultivate your dream farm, navigate the market, and emerge as the ultimate victor. Let the journey begin!
When you play the La Granja game, the first thing you’ll notice is the market place in Esporles. It’s right in the center of the game board, and it’s depicted with hexagonal spaces. Each space has a number value between 2 and 6. However, some of the spaces have an “X” on them, which means they can’t be used in a game with only 2 or 3 players.
Outside of the market place, there are six craft buildings. Each building is assigned a row of symbols, one for each player. These symbols represent different trades and activities. You can deliver farm goods or trade commodities at each craft building, based on the symbols assigned to them. The craft markers are stacked on the spaces next to the symbol rows, showing which trades are happening.
As you dive into the game board, you’ll notice the revenue spaces waiting on the left side. These spaces are marked with dice, each showing a value from 1 to 6. It’s a thrilling sight as you anticipate the outcome of each roll.
On the bottom left of the board, you’ll find spaces reserved for the roof markers. They’re neatly arranged, ready to be claimed. Pay close attention to these markers, for they hold the key to your success.
The roof markers for rounds 2 through 6 are stacked in the correct order, as indicated on the board. This clever arrangement ensures that everything is organized and easy to follow. As you progress through the game, you’ll see the markers change, reflecting the current round.
Above these stacked roof markers, you’ll see the marker specifically for the current round. It stands alone, separate from the others, demanding your attention. Treat it as a signpost, guiding you through the twists and turns of the game.
The siesta track, found on the right side of the game board, displays how “rested” players are in each round. Its purpose is to determine the order of turns.
La Granja has a total of 66 farm cards. Throughout the game, players draw cards into their hands and then play them by placing them under one of the four sides of their farm.
Once a card is played, only the chosen side has an active role and affects the game. The information on the other three sides becomes insignificant for the remainder of the game.
For instance, if a card is played to the left of the farm, it becomes a field. The field will grow and yield a specific harvest – either olives, grain, or grapes.
On the other hand, if a card is placed in one of the three notches at the top of the farm, it becomes a market barrow.
In the world of farming, there are two key elements to consider: farm extensions and helpers. Allow me to explain.
When it comes to expanding your farm, you have the option to play a card on the right side. This card is known as a farm extension and it allows you to, well, extend your farm. It’s like adding more land to cultivate your crops or house your animals.
On the other hand, you also have the option to play a card on one of the three notches at the bottom of your farm. These cards are called helpers, and they bring something special to the table. These helpers have unique abilities that can assist you in different ways, such as increasing your crop yield or protecting your farm from pests.
So, in a nutshell, farm extensions let you enlarge your farm and helpers provide you with additional benefits. Just like in real life, having more land and some extra helping hands can greatly improve your farming experience. Happy farming!

Revenue Dice
There are nine dice in the game. The number of dice used depends on the number of players, and they are assigned to the revenue spaces on the game board.
Welcome to the Player Boards
Hi there! Let’s talk about player boards – those nifty game components that represent your farm. When I play the game, I have my very own player board, and you have one too. It’s like having our own little pieces of virtual farmland.
Now, on my board, I’ve got some cool stuff going on. There are six slots where I can put my craft markers. These markers are important because they show off my skills and abilities as a farmer.
Oh, and there are also some dens on my farm. These dens are where I keep my harvest goods and upgraded goods. It’s like having little storage spaces for all the things I’ve collected and improved.
But that’s not all! On my player board, I’ve got a bunch of other things too. There are different costs for upgrades, and there are also prices for buying and selling resources. That way, I always know how much everything is worth.
Right in the middle of my player board, there’s a special space for trade commodities. This is where I can make some serious deals and exchange goods with other players. It’s like a marketplace right on my farm!
Oh, and you know what’s really cute? I’ve got a pig stall on my board. It can only fit two pigs, so I have to be careful not to overcrowd it. Pigs need a little space to be happy.
Now, let’s talk about the farm extension costs. As I expand my farm, I need to pay more and more to make those extensions. It’s like an investment in my future as a farmer.
On my player board, I’ve got a farmhouse too. It has five spaces where I can put these roof markers that I’ve bought. These markers make my farm look awesome from above.
And guess what? I also have spaces for my donkey markers. Donkeys play a special role in the game, so it’s important to keep them organized.
Lastly, I get to choose two revenue dice each round. These dice will determine how much money I make. It’s always a bit of a thrill to see what fate has in store for me!
Oh, and before I forget: There’s something important you need to know. While I can put any number of my markers in the spaces for trade commodities and dens, the pig stall can only hold a maximum of two pigs. So, I have to be mindful of that and not get too carried away with my pig collection!
When I’m working on my farm, I can place cards in different spots depending on where they are on the farm. The cards at the top and bottom of the farm can go in the “notches,” but I can only have up to three cards there – one in each notch.
The cards on the left and right side of the farm are tucked partly under the cards that are already there. This way, I can only see the side of the card that I need. I can have as many cards as I want in these spots.
Now, let’s talk about game markers. In La Granja, the currency is silver. There are coins worth 1 silver and 3 silver. During the game, I can exchange three 1 silver coins for one 3 silver coin, or vice versa, at the bank. If the rules say “1 silver,” it means a coin worth 1 silver.
Get Ready to Score Points!
As soon as I earn victory points, I get to snatch up that many victory point markers. There are markers worth 1, 3, 5, and even 10 victory points. Whenever I want, I can trade in my markers for different ones, like swapping three markers worth 1 point each for a single marker worth 3 points.
Guess what? I can keep my victory points a secret from everyone else. So, when the rulebook says “1 victory point,” it just means one of those markers worth 1 point.
Craft Markers
Every craft building in the village has its own special craft marker. I can get one marker at each craft building. The front side of the marker shows what it does right away.
Roof Markers
Hey there! Did you know that in this game, you have the option to get yourself a cool roof marker? Yep, it’s true! And let me tell you, having a roof marker can really give you a boost. When it’s your turn, you can buy one roof marker, and it’ll give you a special bonus that you can use once. It’s like a little gift that keeps on giving!
And get this: not only do roof markers make your gameplay even more exciting, but they also earn you victory points. As soon as you buy a roof marker – starting with the second one – you immediately score victory points. So, the more roof markers you have, the more points you earn!
So, why not go ahead and pick up a roof marker for yourself? It’s a great way to enhance your game, get some extra advantages, and earn those valuable victory points. Trust me, you won’t regret it! Good luck and have fun!
Donkey Markers
Hey there! Let me tell you about donkey markers. They’re pretty important in the game. You and everyone else playing have a set of four donkey markers. Cool, right?
Here’s how they work. Each round, you get to pick one donkey marker. These markers have pictures of donkeys on them. They also sometimes show how far you can move ahead on the siesta track of the game board. And you know what? The siesta track is represented by cute little hats.
So, basically, donkey markers help you keep track of your deliveries and give you a boost on the siesta track. It’s like having a little donkey buddy to help you out. How fun!
Creating Order Markers
In La Granja, I discovered that there are three order markers specifically designed for building. These markers are strategically positioned on three craft buildings within the village at the beginning of the game. Their purpose is to restrict entry to these craft buildings initially.
Turn Order Markers
Hey there! Have you ever wondered how we keep track of the order in which players take their turns? Well, let me tell you about turn order markers!
Turn order markers are special tools that we use to keep things organized and fair. They help us remember who gets to go next so that everyone gets a fair chance to play.
Picture this: we’re all sitting around a table, ready to start a game. But who goes first? That’s where the turn order markers come in. They serve as a record of the player order, sort of like a sign that says, “Hey, it’s your turn!”
Turn order markers can come in different forms. Sometimes they’re small tokens or cards that we place in front of each player. Other times, they’re a part of the game board itself, like spaces or arrows that indicate the order.
These markers are a vital part of any game. They ensure that everyone gets a fair shot and that no one is left out. Plus, they help keep things running smoothly and eliminate any confusion about whose turn it is.
So, the next time you sit down to play a game, keep an eye out for those turn order markers. They may seem like a small detail, but they play a big role in making sure everyone has a fun and fair experience.
Player Aids
Let me break it down for you: these player aids are like cheat sheets for each round of the game. They give you the lowdown on what goes down, step by step. And guess what? On the flip side, they spill the beans on how you can win some sweet victory points.

Meet Your Player Markers
When you step into the game, you’ll find yourself equipped with 25 player markers, each colored to match your unique identity. These markers act as your personal tools and treasures, reflecting the items you’ve acquired and utilized throughout your journey on the farm and the game board.
Imagine this: You’re playing a game and you have these little markers that represent different things like trade commodities, olives, and market stands. It’s cool because you can use these markers to do different actions in the game. But here’s the catch – you can only have a maximum of 25 markers! That’s the limit. If you have all 25 markers in use, which rarely happens, you can take one marker from your farm or the game board to use for your current action. It’s like having a secret stash of extra markers.
Now, let’s talk about another important element in the game – the discs. These discs are like special tokens that you place on the “0” space on the siesta track on the game board. During the game, you can move these discs forward to show progress. It’s like leveling up!
Here’s the breakdown of some key terms in La Granja:
1. Trade Commodities: These are the markers that represent the goods you can trade in the game.
2. Olives: These markers are all about the olive fields. They’re like little reminders of your farming success.
3. Market Stands: These markers represent your presence in the village market. They show that you’re a player to be reckoned with.
That’s it! Now you have a better understanding of the game elements in La Granja. It’s all about managing your markers and discs strategically to make the most out of your game. So, go ahead and have a blast!
Let’s talk about harvest goods: There are three types of harvest goods in the game – olives, grain, and grapes. These goods are placed in the fields and dens, and you can even improve them. Just remember, if you collect harvest goods that weren’t grown in your fields, you need to put them in the right dens.
Now, let’s move on to resources: In the game, the resources you can use are olives, grain, grapes, and pigs (specifically, the porc negre breed). You have the freedom to buy, sell, or upgrade these resources to your liking.
Speaking of upgrades: Grapes can be transformed into delicious wine, pigs can become cured meat, and olives and grain can be turned into food. But keep in mind, upgrading your resources might cost you some silver.
Now, let’s dive into revenue: Unlike harvesting and resources, revenue is something you gain through various means. When you roll the dice, you can receive different rewards like resources, silver, a delivery bonus, free upgrades, progress on the siesta track, or even the ability to draw or play a card.
Color Labeling: When it comes to understanding the different phases and steps in a game turn, color plays a crucial role. Each phase is assigned a specific color, making it easier to identify and follow along.
- Farm Phase – labeled in blue
- Revenue Phase – labeled in green
- Scoring Phase – labeled in red
Trade commodities: Trade commodities allow you to exchange them for valuable resources and actions. They can be a useful tool in your game strategy.
Let’s talk about farms. Farms are like a player’s special area in the game. Here, you can keep track of all your farming stuff. What’s farming stuff, you ask? Well, it’s a bunch of things that are important for your farm. Let me break it down for you.
First, we have “farm goods.” This is a big category that includes different things. It includes stuff like silver, which is like money in the game. It also includes victory points, which are important for winning. Then we have harvest goods, like olives, grains, and grapes. These are the things you grow on your farm. Next up, we have upgraded goods. These are special items made from your harvest goods. They can be things like food, wine, and cured meat. Finally, we have pigs, which are animals you can raise on your farm.
Now, if you look at the top right corner of your farm, you’ll see some important information. There’s a summary of the costs for farm extensions, which are like upgrades for your farm. And there’s also a list of all the different farm goods you can have.
Next, let’s talk about deliveries. Deliveries are when you move goods from one place to another. It’s represented by a symbol of a donkey. You can move goods from your fields or dens to craft buildings in the village, or you can take them to a market barrow on your farm. It’s a way to use your goods and make them useful.
So, farms and deliveries are two important parts of the game. Make sure you keep an eye on your farm and use your goods wisely. Good luck!
