Setting Up
You and your friends will find exciting components in this game. You’ll get:
- 180 Trivia Question Cards
- 12 IDIOT! Cards
- 48 Brainiac Cards
- A Playing Board
- A Rules Sheet
- 6 Pencils and Pads
- 6 Player Pawns
- 6 Accusing Pawns
- 6 What’s-My-Color? Pawns
- A Whose-turn-is-it? Black Pawn
Now let’s get started with the setup.
First, you need to choose your color. Each player will pick a color and place both their ACCUSING pawn and their What’s-My-Color? pawn in front of them. Then, put your PLAYER pawn on the space labeled START on the board.
The What’s-My-Color? pawn will help you remember your color during the game. Now, take the IDIOT! and Brainiac cards, shuffle them together, and place them face down next to the board. This will be your WHOAMI? deck.
.
Let’s start the game by giving every player one Trivia card. If you don’t like the card you receive, you can trade it for a different one. Each card has four questions, with the difficulty level ranging from Easy to Hard.
To determine the Start player, you can use any method you prefer. Just give the chosen player the Black pawn to show that they are the first Genius.
Playing the Game
When you play the game, you’ll participate in multiple rounds. Each player will have two rounds, except when there are only three players – in that case, each player will have three rounds.
Here are the seven steps that happen in each round:
I’ll give each of you a card from the WHOAMI? deck. It’s a secret card that will reveal whether you’re a Brainiac or an IDIOT!
If you’re a Brainiac, try to answer the question correctly. But if you’re an IDIOT!, you must answer the question incorrectly. The Start player chooses a question from their trivia card and becomes the Genius of the round. They will read the question to the group.
Scoring
After all accusations have been made, the remaining identity cards are revealed.
If NO ONE accuses an IDIOT! of being an IDIOT!, the IDIOT! receives 3 points and moves their pawn three spaces.
If any player correctly accuses someone of being an IDIOT!, they earn 2 points and move their pawn two spaces.
If any player incorrectly accuses someone of being an IDIOT!, the accusing player loses 1 point and the accused player earns 1 point for each accusation.
Next Round
Once we finish a round, we start a new one by discarding the cards and passing the role of Genius to the next player in a clockwise direction. We give them the Black Pawn to show that they are now the Genius.
Remember: If the last (twelfth) IDIOT! card is revealed at the end of a round, we shuffle the entire deck and use it again.
Ending the Game
The game ends when each player has asked two questions from their Trivia card.
The player with the most points wins. If there is a tie, we keep playing and asking one question at a time until only one player has the highest number of points.
