The goal in this game is simple – I want to play all of my dominoes in each round and aim for the lowest possible score by the end.

Getting Ready

First, we need to set up the game. I’ll place the Wildfire hub right in the middle of our play area. Then, I’ll take all of the dominoes and put them face down to the side. Now, as the dealer, I’ll shuffle the dominoes and deal seven to each player.

The remaining dominoes will be left in a draw pile to the side. We’ll arrange our dominoes so that they’re facing us, but hidden from the other players.

When we “play” a domino, it means we’re placing it in a way that the dots or “pips” on one end match the pips on the domino it’s being played on.

A “double” domino is one that has the same number of pips on both ends. When we play a double, we’ll cross it over the open domino to create a “T” shape.

When I’m playing dominoes, I always remember to play doubles in a criss-cross pattern. This means that I position the double tile in a way that creates three open ends.

Note: You can’t play a double domino on a Wildfire. If you do play a double, you don’t have to finish playing all your other dominoes.

When we start a game of Wildfire Dominoes, the player who holds the highest double gets to go first. That player places their highest double face up in the center of the WILDFIRE HUB. But what happens if no one has a double? Well, in that case, we keep drawing dominoes from the pile until someone finally gets a double.

Once the game starts, we take turns going clockwise around the table. Each player must play a domino that matches the number on the domino in the center. If you can’t do that, you can also play a domino that matches one of the open ends on the domino chain.

Now, what if you don’t have any dominoes that match? Well, in that case, you have to draw one domino from the pile. You can choose to play the domino you just drew, but if you can’t, you’ll have to pass and hope for a better draw next time.

But what if the draw pile is empty? In that situation, if you can’t play a domino, you’ll have no choice but to pass.

It’s important to remember that in Wildfire Dominoes, the goal is to get rid of all your dominoes before your opponents do. The player who manages to do that first is the winner. So, make sure you strategize and pay attention to the dominoes on the table. Good luck!

The Wild Ones are dominoes that have no restrictions. You can use them as any number you want. (Look at Example 1) You can also use the Wild One as a number if it matches another number that’s already on the chain. (Look at Example 2)

When it’s my turn to play the open end Wild One, I need to quickly press the center domino on the Hub. This will reveal what number the open Wild One will be – it could be a 2 or a 5, or any other number.

The game hub will light up and keep cycling through numbers until it stops on one, which will stay lit for 30 seconds. The next domino I play must match that designated number in order to complete the Wild One.

Remember: I can also play another Wild One to complete the Wild One sequence. If the hub shows a “1”, then I must play a Wild One.

If I don’t have a domino in my hand that can be played on this end, I have to draw a domino from the draw pile. I can then try to play it on the Wild One end if possible. If I can’t play it, I can say “pass”. The responsibility of completing the wildfire will then pass to the next player, and so on.

Double Wild One

When you play the Double Wild One, you have the option to play it criss-crossed on any open end. But here’s the catch – once you play it, you need to press the center domino on the Hub right away. This will determine the number that the open Double Wild One will be, like 3 or 4.

Now, the next three plays must be played on that Wild One domino to complete it. It’s like a little puzzle you have to solve!

There’s a special case you need to know about: you can play a new Wild One domino on this double, but not with the Wild One as the open end. Unless, of course, it’s the third and final play on this double to complete it.

But wait, there’s more! You can’t play the Double Wild One on another double. It’s a rule you need to keep in mind.

The Wildfires

When playing the Wildfire ends, you can only use them if the Wildfire side is facing up. If you play a Wildfire, you have to immediately press the center domino on the Hub to find out what number the open Wildfire will be. The Hub will light up and show a number like 9 or 6, indicating the value of the open Wildfire.

The game continues with the Hub going around until it stops on a number. The lit number will remain on the Hub for 30 seconds.

Remember: If the Hub displays a “1”, you must play the “Wild One.” It is not allowed to play a double domino on a Wildfire.

Double Wildfire

When you play a Double Wildfire, you are required to make the next two plays on that specific Wildfire end. You must use the number that the hub lights up to complete (close) that Wildfire.

If you cannot play a domino from your hand on that end, you have to draw one from the pile. If possible, you have to play the drawn domino on the Wildfire end. However, if you cannot play it, you have to say “pass.” In this case, the responsibility of completing the Wildfire passes to the next player, and so on.

How to correctly place a Double Wildfire:

To create a Double Wildfire, I place two dominoes in a specific way. It’s important to position the dominoes at an angle, starting from the ends of the Wildfire. This creates a distinctive “V” shape using the two dominoes.

Understanding the Triple Wildfire:

I have an important rule to tell you about the game of Triple Wildfire. When a Triple Wildfire is played, you have to make the next three plays on that Wildfire end. The number that the hub lights up will tell you which number you need to use to complete the Wildfire.

If you don’t have a domino in your hand that can be played on this end, don’t worry! Just draw one domino from the pile and try to play it on the Wildfire end. But if you can’t play the domino, you have to say “pass.” Then it’s the next player’s turn to try and complete the Wildfire. This keeps going until someone successfully completes the Wildfire or everyone says “pass.”

Here’s the right way to place a Triple Wildfire: First, I place one domino right next to another with a small gap of 1/2 inch in between. Then, I angle the next two dominoes on each side of the first one, creating a cool “W” shape.

If I’m already playing a Wildfire, I can’t use another Wildfire domino unless it’s the very last one I play to finish it. Once the Wildfire is finished, we go back to normal play, unless someone starts another Wildfire.

Remember: A Wild One can be used as a wild domino on a Wildfire, except for when it’s a double Wild One. A Wild One can only be played on an open end of a Wildfire if it’s the last piece played.

If two Wildfires collide, we can move the dominoes around to make more space. It’s like rearranging things to keep the game going smoothly.

Ending the Game

Hey there! Did you know that when I have only one domino left, I have to knock to let everyone know? Yup, that’s how it goes. The round ends when either I play my last domino or when the game gets blocked because there are no more moves to be made and no dominoes left in the draw pile. Phew!

Now, to start the next hand, the player sitting to the left of the dealer becomes the new dealer. Then it keeps going like that, passing the deal around the table. Simple, right?

Speaking of keeping score…

Okay, so you’ll need a piece of paper and a pencil for this part. If a player goes out, they score zero points because, hey, they finished! But everyone else gets to count the number of pips (or dots) on their remaining dominoes.

Here’s how the points work: I get 1 point for each dot (so if I have a domino with 3 dots, I get 3 points), but things get more exciting with the special dominoes! If I have a Wild One, I score 10 points! Double Wildfires are worth a whopping 20 points! And if I’m lucky enough to have a Triple Wildfire, that’s a stunning 30 points! If nobody goes out, then each player adds up points from their own hand.

After the scores are recorded for each player, it’s time to reshuffle the dominoes and get ready for the next round.

Let’s talk endgame.

When it comes to the end of the game, there’s no specific point target or anything like that. It simply ends whenever we decide to stop playing. But hey, the fun thing is that we can keep on playing for as long as we like!

When we finish a round, I check if someone has accumulated 300 or more points. If they have, the game is over! The player with the fewest points wins, so low scores are actually good in this game.

Another Way to Play

Quick Games: Instead of playing until someone reaches 300 points, you can set a specific number of rounds or a lower score to determine the winner.

Strategy is Key: Instead of relying on luck, you can use your smarts to make this game more strategic. Instead of automatically choosing the center domino as the Wild One, the player who played it gets to call it out. This way, you can think about the dominoes you have and the ones that have already been played to make the best decision.

Don’t Forget the Penalty: If you notice that a player doesn’t knock when they only have one domino left, they have to take a domino from the draw pile as a penalty. And if the draw pile is empty, they lose their next turn. It’s a tough consequence, so remember to always knock!
