UNO Mod Game Rules
Hey there! Have you ever played UNO? It’s a pretty fun card game that I really enjoy. Today, I want to talk to you about some interesting variations of UNO called “mod games.” These mod games put a new twist on the classic UNO rules and make the game even more exciting. Let’s dive in and explore some of these awesome mod games together!
First up, we have “Wild Draw Color Change.” In this mod game, whenever a player plays a Wild Draw 4 card, they get to change the color of the game to any color they want. Now, doesn’t that sound cool? It adds a whole new level of strategy and unpredictability to the game.
Next, let me tell you about “Swap Hands.” This mod game is all about trading hands with another player. Imagine playing UNO, and suddenly you have the opportunity to swap your terrible hand with your opponent’s amazing hand. That would definitely shake things up and keep you on your toes!
Another awesome mod game is “Double Reverse.” In this version, when a Reverse card is played, the rotation of play changes not once, but twice! Picture this: the game is going clockwise, and someone plays a Reverse card. Instead of going back to the right, it goes back to the left, and then back to the right again. Talk about turning the game upside down!
Oh, and let’s not forget about “Skip-a-Blast.” This mod game combines the Skip and Blast cards into one card. When this powerful card is played, not only does it skip the next player’s turn, but it also blasts them with a penalty of four cards! Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.
Lastly, let me introduce you to “All-In.” In this mod game, whenever a player plays a Draw 2 card, the next player must keep drawing cards until they draw a card of the same color. Can you imagine the suspense of waiting for that specific color card while the number of cards in your hand keeps piling up? It’s definitely a thrilling experience!
So, there you have it – some awesome mod game variations of UNO. These mod games bring a whole new level of excitement to the classic game we all love. I encourage you to give them a try and see which one becomes your new favorite. Enjoy and have a blast playing UNO with these fun twists!

Let’s Play
The goal is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards and score points based on the cards your opponents still have. The player who reaches 500 points first wins the game.
Setting Up
To decide who deals, each player draws a card, and the player with the highest number becomes the dealer. If there are any cards with symbols, count them as zero. The dealer shuffles and deals 7 cards to each player.
The remaining cards form the DRAW pile, which is placed facedown.
The game starts by turning over the top card of the DRAW pile to create a discard pile.
Note: If any of the Action Cards (symbols) are turned over to start the DISCARD pile.
Hey there! Just a quick heads-up: if you happen to come across any of those action cards, you’ll want to place them face-up in the discard pile. Easy-peasy!
Get Ready to Play
Let’s begin the game with the person sitting to the left of the dealer.
When it’s your turn, you have to find a card in your hand that matches the top card on the discard pile. It can match in number, color, or symbol (symbols are special action cards). You can also play a Wild card if you have one.
If you don’t have a matching card in your hand, you have to pick a card from the draw pile. If the card you draw matches, you can play it right away. If not, the next person takes their turn.
There’s another option: you can choose not to play a card from your hand even if you have a matching one. In that case, you must pick a card from the draw pile. If the drawn card is playable, you can play it immediately, but you can’t play any other cards from your hand on the same turn.
Special Action Cards
Draw Two Card
When I play this card, you have to draw 2 cards and skip your turn. It’s a sneaky move that can put you at a disadvantage.
You can only play this card if it matches the color of the previous card or if another Draw Two card has already been played. If this card is the first one turned up, you still have to draw 2 cards and miss your turn.
Switcheroo Card
When you play this card, everything changes. Instead of the usual clockwise direction, it goes counterclockwise. It’s like a switcheroo! You can only play this card on a matching color or on another Skip card, so make sure you choose wisely.
But here’s a twist: if this card shows up right at the start, the dealer gets to go first and then the game goes in the opposite direction. Talk about shaking things up!
Reverse Card
When you play this card, you can make the next player lose their turn. But there’s a catch – you can only play this card if it matches the color of the card on top of the deck, or if it’s another Skip card.
If a Skip card is the first one to show up at the start of the game, the player to the left of the dealer will be the unlucky one to lose their turn. And then, the player to the left of that player gets to start the game.
Wild Card
When you play this card, you can pick which color the game will continue with. This means you can choose any color, including the one that was already in play before the Wild card was played.
Even if you have another card that you could play, you are still allowed to play a Wild card on your turn. If a Wild card is drawn at the start of the game, the person on the dealer’s left gets to choose the color that will continue the game.
Wild Draw 4 Card
Hey there! When you play this card, you get to be in charge of the color that continues the game. Plus, the next player has to draw 4 cards from the DRAW pile and skip their turn. Pretty cool, huh? But, here’s the catch!
You can only play this card when you don’t have another card in your hand that matches the color on the discard pile. It’s totally fine if you have a card with the same number or an Action Card, though.
If this card comes up at the beginning of the game, just put it back in the deck and choose another card. Easy-peasy!
Take note: If you have a feeling that someone played a Wild Draw 4 card on you unfairly (like they actually had a matching card), you can totally call them out on it.
So here’s how the game goes. If you think someone is hiding cards, you have the power to challenge them. When you do, the player you’re challenging has to reveal their hand to you. If they’re guilty, they have to take 4 cards, but if they’re innocent, you’re the one who gets punished with 6 cards – 4 for the challenge and 2 extra!
This is the Twist
Hey there! I’ve got a card here that’s gonna shake things up for you and your opponents!
When you use the Mod card, just shout out a color from your hand that you wanna get rid of.
Then, starting with the player on your left and going around the table, give one card to each opponent until you’re out of cards of that color. It’s totally okay if everyone doesn’t end up with the same number of cards.
This card is also a Wild card, so you pick the color that’s in play and the game continues in the same direction.
If this card shows up at the start of the game, forget about it! The person to the left of the dealer gets to choose which color starts the game.
Time to Win
When you’re down to your second-to-last card, make sure to shout “UNO” at the top of your lungs. It’s basically a fancy way of saying “I only have one card left!” If you forget to yell “UNO” and someone catches you before the next player starts their turn, you’ll have to pick up two more cards.
Once someone gets rid of all their cards, the round is over. Points are awarded to the players based on the cards they have left (see SCORING), and then you start a brand new round.
Here’s a special rule: if the last card played in a round is a Draw Two or Wild Draw Four card, the next player has to draw two or four cards, respectively. These extra cards count towards the final points too.
If all the cards in the DRAW pile are used up and no one has gotten rid of all their cards yet, don’t worry! We just shuffle the DISCARD pile and keep on playing.
Scoring
The first player who manages to get rid of all their cards in a round earns points based on the cards left in their opponents’ hands. Here’s how we add them up:
- Each number card (0-9) is worth its face value in points.
When you play the game UNO, you earn points based on the cards you play. Let’s take a look at the points each card is worth:
– Draw Two: 20 Points
– Reverse: 20 Points
– Skip: 20 Points
– Wild: 50 Points
– Wild Draw Four: 50 Points
– MOD: 50 Points
Once the round is over, we tally up the scores. If no one has reached 500 points yet, we shuffle the cards and start a new round.
The game ends when a player reaches 500 points. The first person to reach this milestone is the winner!
So, get ready to play UNO and start earning those points. Good luck!
